Oh wow. What a day! Our fifth annual Real Wedding Special hit newsstands nationally on Thursday, February 7 and we just so happened to be in Byron Bay that week shooting a fashion editorial for issue 24 of Hello May (on sale Thursday, March 7). So why not take the opportunity to celebrate the launch of this very special issue by gathering our favourite local creators together for a long lunch.

Tucked away in the Hinterland at one of Byron Bay Weddings many gorgeous venues, we, of course, turned to their team of culinary geniuses to feed us too! We can see why so many couples choose to tie the knot in this beautiful part of the world, the Byron Bay Weddings staff are next level amazing and don’t even get us started on the Kingfish Sashimi! Needless to say, it was hats off to the chefs!

No one would have been in attendance without our rather snazzy invites which were a collaboration between stationery designer Better Together Paper Co. and Letterpress designer and printer Terrace Press (check out the hashtag #betterpressedtogether for more of their gorgeous work). These guys also whipped up menus and place cards.

Rach from Peachey Pie Weddings (who styled last years event) was back again working her magic, and this time she had a plethora of awesome hire items from Byron’s go-to for furniture and prop hire, The Wedding Shed, to play with along with Jess from Poppy and Fern Flowers who decorated our table with locally grown, foam free, arrangements… and loads of moss which, according to Jess, is this seasons next big thing, so you heard it here first, guys!

After canapés and cocktails were served on the front lawn, we sat down to a delicious five-course degustation. There was such a buzz in the air, even more so once everyone caught sight of their goodie bags which included a rattan bag from Polly Baker (perfect for the honeymoon!), the most scrumptious smelling candle from local brand Posie (best bridesmaids gift going around if you ask us!), coffee scrub from Frank Body and serenity tea from another Byron Bay fave Mayde Tea (both must-haves to calm yourself pre-wedding day!) We of course threw in a copy of our fifth annual Real Wedding Special for everyone to enjoy too, with our beautiful cover by Blacklist Studio who were also kind enough to gift our guests their Love Notes notepad.

But we wouldn’t even be sharing this story with you if it wasn’t for wedding photographer Janneke Storm. She moved around the group effortlessly snapping moments we didn’t even know were happening. Women lending an ear to an old friend or offering a warm hug to a new one. Yep. There were feels at the launch of our fourth annual Real Wedding Special, which you’ll find exclusively stocked at all good newsagents nationally.
