Hey! I’m Rene Thornton, florist and founder of Twisted Stems.

Destined to be a florist.

I was born and raised on my family’s flower farm and have been going to the Sydney Flower Markets with my dad since I was eight years old. This is where I source all of the fresh flowers and greenery for my striking ceiling installations, artistic arches, pretty little posies, and bold bouquets. I also love being outdoors and am constantly inspired by nature. I can frequently be found high up on a ladder and foraging for vines and foliage to unify my floral arrangements.

I have learnt all that I can about the industry of flowers, from bud to bloom. After studying “The Art of Floristry” at TAFE, I took a hiatus to travel the world. I’ve worked at a variety of floral boutiques, both locally and globally, which has given me the confidence to make a career out of something that I genuinely enjoy. My adventures have taken me full circle, and since returning home to stop and smell the roses, I’ve achieved my dream of opening a studio on my family’s farm.

Twisted Stems offers a complete floral experience.

I invite you to take a tour of our farm at Thornton Bros Roses, Thirlmere; then relax with a champagne or coffee in the light-filled studio as we talk about your wedding. We’ll work with seasonal colours and textures to curate a colour palette, and create a mood board unique to you. I look forward to being there as you and your partner embark on the adventure of a lifetime!
