These two romantically got married on their 12 th anniversary after “we met each other in high school when we were both interested in each others best friends!” explains the bride, who wore Chosen By One Day from one of our favourite Sydney Bridal boutiques, Love Marie. They tied the knot in Kingscliff where they have holidayed together for years (and also where they got engaged). See- told you they were romantic. Caught on camera by HM Directory Vendors, photographer, Blaise Bell and Joel Tronoff (for the video of their dreams). Scroll down for all the details…

THE VENUE “After seeing a few venues in the Byron Hinterland we couldn’t find anything that ticked all the boxes and allowed us to plan the wedding we wanted. We were looking for a venue that not only showed off the beauty of the region but also allowed us flexibility with vendors and most importantly, no curfew. Over dinner (and after a few drinks) Sam’s parent’s half-jokingly offered their house in Kingscliff as a potential wedding venue. After a few days (and a few more drinks) we decided to see if they were serious about the offer and thankfully they were.”

THE VIBE “Since before we were engaged we had always discussed having a non-traditional wedding that was pretty relaxed. We really wanted a day that not only celebrated us, but also showed off the amazing location. We took a fairly minimal approach to styling, choosing to use neutrals and florals that echoed the surrounding textures of the area. From the beginning, the main inspiration was for it to feel like a big family dinner where we sat in amongst our guests sharing good food and great wine. This was extremely important to us, so we ensured we had the best catering in the area and also taste-tested a lot of wine to curate the perfect wine list.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “We really liked that the groomsmen were all in mismatched outfits. Also, Sam’s mother spent countless weekends planting natives and white blooms to ensure it was perfect for our day. By the time the wedding came around the garden looked incredible and was in full bloom. And our flowers by Wilderness Flowers were jaw-dropping. I remember walking into the reception space for the first time and being completely gobsmacked at how amazing the hanging installations were. I trusted Mikarla completely with our ideas and she did not disappoint!”

DIY “We decided not to outsource much. As a designer and a bit of a control freak, I designed all the stationary including the invitations, signage, place cards and menus. I also sourced all my own styling elements such as fabric for table runners and napkins, candles and terrazzo. The biggest of my projects was making the napkins, I knew the look I wanted and after not being able to find anything that fit the bill, I decided to make them myself. Three days before the wedding, with the help of my mother, mother in law and of course Sam, we hand cut and frayed the edges of 82 napkins.”

THE DRESS “I found finding a dress to be one of the hardest parts. I knew I was after something that wasn’t too bridal, fairly minimal but still had a little wow factor. After going to nine different stores I was about to give up and have something custom made when Chosen By One Day released the Lennox gown. From the moment I saw it, I knew it was the dress for me. I purchased the dress from Amy at Love Marie and the whole process was a breeze, from ordering me in a sample of the fabric to chasing up to ensure it arrived in time, I could not recommend Amy more.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Without our coordinator Anna (of The Wedding Knot), the day would not have unfolded as smoothly as it did. Her positive energy was incredible and no task was too big or too hard. Blaise Bell, our photographer was an absolute legend! He was super relaxed and friendly and you could tell he genuinely wanted to do an amazing job. Our caterers, 100 Mile Table, worked really closely with us to create a menu that was exactly what we wanted. So many guests mentioned it was the best wedding food they have ever had! Finally, not strictly a vendor, but Sam’s parents were incredible.”
