With a whole host of Hello May Directory vendors, this wedding (held at the epic Waldara, no less), went off without a hitch! The bride, who wore a stunning Rue De Seine gown from The Bridal Atelier describes the dance floor as “hilarious,” revealing that The White Tree (also one of their standout vendors), “randomly pulled out a Twister board at one point, and then instigated a limbo competition.” Want to know more? THE VENUEWaldara was the first wedding venue Rhys found on Wedshed and the first venue we went to check out in person. We fell in love with the place as soon as we drove down their long, tree-lined drive. The property is seriously stunning! We really loved that it’s a working farm, which has a true Australian country feel, but also manicured gardens and gorgeous rose bushes. We were really drawn to the venue as they have a large newly built ‘barn’ with a state of the art commercial kitchen. It differed from other places as we weren’t tied to any catering companies or alcohol options; the perfect ‘shell’ to bring in all of our preferred vendors and really make it our own. Waldara also has two gorgeous homesteads that allowed us to sleep our bridal party and partners for the duration of the wedding weekend festivities.”

THE THEME “Boho-luxe with a hint of industrial elements. A lot of our styling combined beautiful floral arrangements by Boutierre Girls, with elements of gold and white steel, and acrylic. Unfortunately, we had crazy 40km winds on our wedding day, so our wedding arbour and florals in the cocktail hour area kept flying away in the wind. It was such a shame, but obviously completely out of our control. We were lucky that Waldara is so stunning in its own right.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “The florals inside the wedding reception barn! Emily from Boutierre Girls did such a phenomenal job. The team used overhead stands to display the larger floral arrangements down the middle two tables. As the barn has such a high ceiling they really filled the space, and from a distance looked like they were floating in the air. Our bouquets were also absolutely gorgeous. I asked for them to be quite small and incorporate both classic and wildflowers.”

DIY “We undertook so many DIY projects! Rhys made all of the cocktail hour high tables from recycled Oregon and welded and painted the hairpin legs. He also made an incredible Hamptons Style dry bar which we used in the cocktail hour as well. We also made all of our acrylic signage and individual place cards for our guests, and one of my bridesmaids painstakingly hand wrote all of them! We did all the styling ourselves and our amazing family, bridal party and their partners helped put everything together the day before the wedding.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Whilst it’s so wonderful to have every tiny detail personalised, it’s not always within budget. So long as you nail the entertainment, food and drink, your guests are bound to go home happy. Essentially, don’t skimp on the big-ticket items just so you can put more of your budget on the finer details. I also recommend paying off your vendor invoices as soon as you’ve got the money to do so. They generally have to be paid in the last couple of weeks leading up to the wedding, which just adds a whole lot of stress to the already stressful time!”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “I’m really glad that we decided to have a big wedding. It’s so common to ride a crazy rollercoaster of emotions when planning a wedding, and question your sanity in spending so much time, effort and money having one, but I thought it was worth it!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographers Willow & Co not only delivered stunning photos, but went above and beyond to make sure that our day ran smoothly. Also, our band, The White Tree. We had the most epic dance floor that was heaving all night! They were super helpful in the lead-up, and exceeded all expectations come the evening of! All of our guests are still raving about how much fun and how amazing they were. We can’t recommend them enough – with Gerard as the lead singer! They were super interactive with the crowd, would randomly change outfits and were just the life of the party!”
