“Marriage is about accepting the other person completely- flaws and all. Which in my case means being aware that when Aslinn is mad at me, it may just be because she is hangry.” We’re with you Cameron, hangry is absolutely a thing. Also a romantic, the groom revealed he did some “minor DIY” to gift Aslinn. “We went travelling for 10 months in 2015. This trip was a turning point in our relationship, so I spent six months sorting through the 11000 photos, making a photo book that I gave to her on the morning of the wedding.” Sweet, right?! THE VENUE We looked at about half a dozen before we found Rustico at Hay Shed Hill. We weren’t actually looking at the time- we were just stopping in for lunch on a weekend away and fell in love with the venue. It’s an incredible space and the staff are amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The natural beauty of the space with its hanging greenery and industrial look really caught our eye and was what we pictured our wedding would look like.

DIY My beautiful mother made my veil and the gorgeous lace armbands that I wore. She makes an amazing caramelised onion and I wanted to add a personal touch to the wedding, so I asked if she would make the favours. Needless to say, I underestimated how much work it would actually be! In the end we chopped 11kgs of onions! We made the favours over a few weeks period and both our hands and mum’s kitchen smelt like onions for weeks! It was so worth it though as people loved touch of something personal and homemade.

THE DRESS I had pinned my dress (on Pinterest) even before we were engaged. I then got caught up looking at too many dresses and changed my mind about what kind of style I wanted. I was set on having a long sleeve dress because they are so beautiful! However, I didn’t have that dress ‘moment’. I then decided that I would just order the ‘Casablanca’ gown from Spell & The Gypsy Collective to see if I liked it. They have a 30 day returns policy and you get a full refund so I had nothing to lose. I had that ‘moment’ when I just fell in love with it. It’s funny how things work out as I had liked the dress two years before I got married- it just goes to show your first instincts are usually the right ones.

REFERENCES Instagram was a huge source of inspiration for me. We found our photographer, Paris Hawken Weddings on Instagram while browsing some of the venue’s photos.

COOL CUSTOM Not exactly a family or religious tradition, but we did incorporate a wine ceremony. We wrote a letter to each other and sealed it in a box with a bottle of wine from Hay Shed Hill. It is to be opened on our 10-year anniversary where we will drink the wine and read the letters to each other to remind ourselves why we love each other and decided to get married. If we don’t make 10 years, then the plan is to drink it and read the letters before we make any rash decisions.

STANDOUT VENDORS Vanessa and all the staff at Rustico at Hay Shed Hill were so amazing. We cannot rave about them enough! We didn’t have to worry about a single thing which meant we could relax and enjoy our day. So many people said to us afterwards that our wedding was the best wedding they had ever been to which is a huge compliment and I think a lot of that praise goes to Vanessa and her team. And of course, the amazing Paris Hawken! We booked Paris almost a year out and were so excited we got the opportunity to work with her. We just really loved her relaxed style of photography and her chilled personality. Paris did such an amazing job in capturing our day, all of our favourite photos are the candid moments Paris captured for us.
