When Annabelle and Shubho met at a university orientation camp, they had no idea they’d be strolling down the aisle nine years later. It seems Belle’s mum might’ve seen that there was something special there, though… “My mum always jokes that when she picked me up after the weekend away, I did nothing but talk about Shubho for most of the car ride home. I think we just clicked immediately, though it did take Shubho a year to ask me out.”

And let us tell you, friends, it was worth the wait – just check out these stunning pics of the big day (shot by none other than Hello May fave One Spoon Two Spoon) when it finally rolled around in March 2021. With Nathan Kaso on videography and Pomp and Splendour bringing their trademark beautiful blooms, you just know it’s going to be good. Chuck in a couple of rings by jewellery master Cushla Whiting, an immaculate gown and veil by Georgia Young Couture and epic entertainment thanks to One More Song and, by golly, these two had a recipe for a top-notch big day on their hands! Scroll on for all the juicy details…

THE PROPOSAL “Shubho proposed on holiday in Tasmania and while he tried his best to keep it a secret, there were a few clues along the way! A couple of days before our holiday he ‘casually’ asked if I was getting my nails done (not something he would normally take  an interest in). Then after seeming pretty jittery on the flight from Melbourne (I later found out he was worried about a very nice bottle of champagne and glasses in his luggage), we arrived at Launceston airport where there was an absolutely massive box waiting for us at the car hire counter. Shubho and I put the box – which had ‘florals’ clearly written across it! – in the back seat of the car and drove three hours to Coles Bay without discussing it at all. When we arrived at our accommodation, he sent me off to the general store to get some groceries and when I returned he got down on one knee and had beautiful flowers and champagne set up ready to celebrate. We spent the rest of the night drinking champagne and dancing to songs we wanted to play at our future wedding!”

THE DRESS “I spent a day visiting quite a few bridal stores with my mum and bridesmaids and just couldn’t find something I liked. Then I came across Georgia Young Couture and booked an appointment as soon as I could. Honestly, I could have chosen multiple gowns from Georgia’s collection. She was also absolutely gorgeous to work with and has the best laugh. She helped me pick my jewellery and veil, too (‘trust the expert’ was my motto throughout the process).”

THE VIBE Overall, we wanted our wedding day to feel modern, special and intimate, and creating a vibe was more important to us than a specific theme. It was really important to us that we found a location that felt intimate for the wedding ceremony and a reception venue where we could celebrate with amazing food and wine, and dance the night away. Our wonderful florists, Pomp and Splendour, created beautiful flower arrangements with what you could only describe as very vague guidance on our part! We didn’t have a strong vision colour wise, but their masterpiece looked beautiful in the gallery and we loved it.”

THE VENUE “Our reception at Cutler & Co. was a cocktail function. Part-way through the night, the staff set up a little bar table at the front of the restaurant so that we could take a moment to enjoy the food together – they had actually put food aside for us without asking us! For a little while we were sort of observers at our own wedding. It was just lovely touch to sit down and watch all our guests enjoying themselves whilst eating amazing food. That was a really lovely detail that we didn’t even have to plan for.

A WORD OF ADVICEWe didn’t have a wedding planner or stylist, so we were doing it ourselves in terms of coordinating vendors and venues. Neither of us realised just how many moving parts there were until we were well underway with planning! There’s a lot more administration involved in a wedding than we had appreciated. So take your time planning and enjoy the process. Give yourself time to work out what’s really important to you as a couple rather than booking things because you’re worried you’ll miss out.”

WE’RE GLAD WE…Met each other prior to the ceremony – it was was one of the best decisions we made. It was surprisingly overwhelming seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day and so meeting before the ceremony meant we could really enjoy the moment without feeling self-conscious in front of all our guests. I think it also meant we could be more present during the ceremony, it just seemed to take some of the pressure off.”

STANDOUT VENDORS All our vendors were absolutely sensational and we felt so lucky to have them. Our photographer Hailey, from One Spoon Two Spoon, brought such a wonderful energy to the day and her photography speaks for itself. Nathan Kaso, our videographer, was fantastic and our wedding video captured the day so well – it is really special. Eddy Mac from One More Song was awesome and just found the perfect balance for the dance floor (he also kept the entire reception on schedule as MC). Pomp and Splendour were so wonderful, and thank goodness they had the vision that we didn’t! All the staff from the Centre for Contemporary Photography, where we had the ceremony, and Cutler & Co. were wonderful and everything ran so smoothly. Damon Hughes, our celebrant was just wonderful and is a really talented storyteller. We had so many compliments from our guests. Everyone loved the way the ceremony captured both of our personalities and our relationship so perfectly!”
