Say hi to Chloe and Ewan, friends. Their romance is all-time (as is their meaning of marriage). “We were each other’s first loves (in 2008 at 18 and 19), so it was a heady, tumultuous, and dreamy time, but the relationship didn’t last longer than a year,” explains the bride. Fast forward to 2015 and “falling in love again was effortless” and five years later they tied the knot in what was their fourth planned wedding. Yes, the fourth! LITTLE LOL “Just trying to get down the aisle! The first date was changed due to a double booking at one of our venues. The second date was changed due to COVID. Finally, the third date was changed as we discovered I was pregnant. It was the most beautiful surprise and it forced us to reassess what we were trying to achieve, which was ultimately for two people, who were in love, to get married. The wedding we originally planned was huge. Instead, we made the call to scale everything back and to get married rather quickly.”
THE VENUE “Agnes had a beautiful rooftop terrace, perfect for a ceremony, with a private dining room for an intimate reception dinner. The food at Agnes was a complete hit with our families – the entire menu is cooked over fire and every plate was completely bare by the end of the night.”
THE INSPO “Dark, romantic, moody vibes. Ewan’s suit, including his shirt and shoes, were completely black, and I had worked with Kate Dawes Flower Design on a theme of dark, blood-red and black florals with pops of light-coloured orchids, which she absolutely nailed.”
REFERENCES “Instagram and Hello May! When we became engaged, I took out a year subscription to Hello May and spent many blissful afternoons with a glass of wine and the latest magazine – dog-earring pages and tracking down vendors on Instagram. I enjoyed the planning stage so much – we were able to craft the wedding of our dreams.”
MARRIAGE MEANS… “To Ewan, it means living with your best mate – the best roommate you could ever have – and having no end-of-lease in sight. To me, it means having every problem solved by one of Ewan’s cups of tea, and two huge arms to wrap me up when I need it.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Choose your vendors because you love their style and then trust in their creative ability. Your vendors are the professionals for a reason. There is no way we could have dreamed up the creations that our florist blessed us with on the day, nor could we have ever imagined how much we would adore our photos by Janneke Storm, so letting our vendors have creative freedom is the best thing we did.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer, Janneke Storm, not only created incredible photos for us, but on top of that, she felt like our wedding planner and friend all wrapped into one. We felt a real connection with Janneke from the start and it truly felt like we had an old friend behind the lens. Her creative guidance on the day put our awkward selves at ease and made for truly beautiful photos. Our celebrant, David Webber, was another absolute stand out. Hayley and Tegan at Amante Bridal were also incredible.”
