Eleanor and Lucas didn’t realise it when they met at a Battle of the Bands concert in their mid-teens, but they  went to kindergarten together! “We actually have a perfect photo of the two of us together dressed as angels from our Christmas Concert at the time, so that’s a really special photo to us!” Eleanor tells us.

Lucas popped the question on the couple’s 10-year anniversary, taking Eleanor back to the place where it all started – the Allan McLean hall where that Battle of the Bands had been held so many years before – and two years later, these lovebirds got hitched (with Eleanor in a phenom Alca Line Bride gown to boot). THE VENUE “We were tossing up between a total blank canvas warehouse vibe or a trendy cafe/restaurant – then we visited Projekt 3488 and fell in love with it. The quirkiness and warmth of the venue totally drew us in and we loved the green mountainous surrounds. It’s right next door to an old church that provided the moss-covered roof backdrop which we loved and chose to get married in front of.”

THE VIBE COLOUR and FUN were must-haves for us. The arbour from Bangin’ Hangins was one of the first things I organised and honestly found it pretty tough trying to narrow my palette down to only five colours! I did gravitate towards a lot of ‘jewel’ tones and felt the colours I picked had very ‘Wes Anderson’ vibes. I eventually ended up going back to change the arbour colours once I’d picked my dress as I thought it’d be cute to tie the lavender back into it.”

THE DRESS My dress is from Alca Line Bride in Sydney and I found it on Instagram about a year before I ended up trying it on at a trunk show. I knew I didn’t want anything super traditional and was open to wearing something a bit more ‘out there’. I went to my Bluebell Bridal appointment with my mum and sister and tried on the lavender Alca Line Romy dress first. I ended up trying the rest of the (mostly white) dresses I had on my rail and the feedback I got from my mum was, ‘They’re nice but they’re not the purple one!’ I tried it on again at the end of the appointment and didn’t want to take it back off so felt that was a pretty good sign. I ended up going all out and getting a lavender veil as well as wearing glittery lavender eyeshadow so went full throttle with the purple fantasy.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “…paid no attention to traditions like first dances. We’re a couple of introverts so didn’t want to do anything that made us uncomfortable. I’m also super stoked we did a ‘first look’. Getting our portraits done prior to our ceremony gave us some quality time with each other on the day and allowed us to spend more time with the people who’d made the effort to be at our wedding. Also, sneakers. I’m really, really glad I swapped out my heels for sneakers later in the night so I could boogie to my heart’s content.”

STANDOUT VENDORMiranda Stokkel was our phenomenal photographer and we had so many guests tell us how great she was on the day. She is so immensely talented at what she does and made us feel so comfortable. Her candid photos really captured the spirit of everybody in them – I feel very lucky to have had her on our day.”
