Georgie and Michael are definitely on the same page when it comes to serving up exciting surprises. Georgie planned a surprise trip for Michael’s 30th with thirty of their closest friends. Michael, being the intuitive lad he is, discovered the plans and intercepted them with a surprise of his own at sunrise atop the highest lookout on Hamilton Island. “Here I asked her to marry me and afterwards I surprised her and all my friends on a yacht around the Whitsunday islands for the day where we all celebrated my 30th and our proposal.” Swish! Fast forward a year and these lovebirds celebrated with Mrs Gibbons blooms and a field of wildflowers. Scroll down for the delightful snaps that the fab Phil of Heart and Colour captured on the day…

THE VENUE “Well, the property we got married on is a family property where we are currently building a wedding venue. The venue itself is called ‘The Dairy’ in Ravensbourne. We hope to have this built and complete by September 2023 (currently under construction). Our wedding was during very strict covid restrictions so travel or booking a venue seemed too risky with constant lockdowns so building our own location seemed like the simplest and most reliable option! It was also very special to use our family property, knowing it will always be special to us and we can always revisit the site.”

THE INSPO “Georgie is from Scotland and the one thing she misses about Scotland was all the wild meadows. We decided to actually plant a meadow that we could get married in. A big risk, I know, as one frost could have killed them all given that we sowed all the seeds in the middle of winter. We just wanted to create that feeling of getting married and dining in a wild meadow. Although usual settings in meadows are relaxed and breezy, we still wanted to create and luxury event for our guests so we created a beautiful lighting structure in the middle of the meadow.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “I planted all of Georgie’s favourite flowers that meant something to her in the meadow which I then used in her bouquet. I put this together the morning of the wedding. Daffodils were a childhood memory, sweat peas are what her mum used to grow in her garden, camomile daisies because they are her favourite flowers and cosmos because that is what meadow dreams are made of and is mostly what we planted. A lot of the daffodil bulbs had sprouted in the lead-up to the wedding but none had flowered as yet, until the morning of the wedding when we did a final walk-through of the reception location before getting ready and we noticed that the daffodils had all opened and bloomed – talk about perfect timing.”

WE’RE GLAD WE “We are so glad we had a small wedding. We really wanted to spoil each and everyone one of our guests and that we did. We had an eight-course degustation menu which we could only do with a small group. Anita from Impressions On Scott created this all from a marquee in the back corner of the paddock! Absolutely incredible!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Aaron from Harolds Finishing Touches was a vision, helping me plan the wedding and making my vision become a reality was just the best. Phil from Heart and Colour was also another stand out for us as he captured the wedding just how we imagined. He made us feel at ease and ourselves – which is just how you want to feel on your special day. And lastly, Anita from Impressions On Scott. How she created an 8-course degustation menu in a paddock just blows my mind and it was nothing short of perfection.”
