As a Sales & Event Coordinator for one of Sydney’s best restaurants, bride Kat had a bit of a handle on the whole wedding planning thang. Combining her skills with inspo from our Real Wedding blogs, she managed to put together one of the dreamiest teams we have seen to date. There was Tom Coburn Wedding Co. behind the lens, Little Duck Calligraphy on signage, Ashdown & Bee provided all kinds of hired goods and Meg Maskell Fine Jewellery on rings. Our fave part of it all? The bride’s vintage Oscar De La Renta gown topped off with our fave pearl veil of all time, courtesy of Prea James Bridal. Delish. Enough from us! Scroll down for the rest of this big day…

THE VIBE “We wanted something elegant yet exciting and bold. We went with pastel coloured flowers with pops of red for drama. For the reception, we had lots of greenery hanging from the ceiling to tie in the outside garden feels inside the book barn – a nice transition from ceremony to reception. I also organised for fairy lights to be hung from all the chandeliers inside the book barn for a real “beauty & the beast” castle vibe!”

THE DRESS “We had spent New Year’s in New Orleans as a part of a 5 week holiday around America and Rhys and I came across this pale pink coloured store [Century Girl] with a “press for champagne” button on the door plus the most amazing ball gown in the window. We instantly felt drawn to walk inside. Once we had, they had every possible designer from Chanel to Louis Vuitton, Oscar De La Renta, Victor Costa – it was a vintage lover’s dream. Immediately I thought I could find my dream wedding gown, as I was after something vintage and classic styled. I started looking for white gowns, however, as they were in the middle of their winter season most of their gowns came in darker colours. I reached the back of the store with a rack noted “Oscar De La Renta”. I swiped through the rack and came to find this stunning strapless navy, hourglass figure, silk gown with a vintage gathering at the back of the gown and a short train that had cut out pieces all around the bottom edge of the train – I wasn’t leaving the shop without trying this dress on. So I did, and once on, fell head over heels in love.”

A WORD OF ADVICE ”We organised a pre-wedding BBQ the night before the wedding at the house I was staying at with my family and invited our nearest and dearest to attend. It was such a great night! It gave us the opportunity to welcome everyone to the Southern Highlands, have the time to really talk with everyone on a casual basis and just sit back, relax and enjoy the moment. Everyone was so excited and it created a really great buzz for the wedding. We would definitely recommend organising some extra time like this as everything goes incredibly fast on the day.”

LITTLE LOL “Rhys forgot his belt on the wedding day so he had to ask a friend to bring him one the morning off. He also grabbed the wrong ring during the ceremony, so during our vows and ring swap he had tried to put his wedding band on my finger until I told him that ain’t the right ring babe and he quickly swapped them over (I think he was a little nervous!)”

STANDOUT VENDORSTom Coburn our photographer & videographer – I mean, what a guy! He’s so cool and calm and we felt really comfortable with him on the day. Nothing felt staged or unnatural, we had tons of fun with him and it really showed in the photos and video. He managed to capture all the in-between moments that we can now look back on and know exactly how we were feeling. He was also super discreet, there are some photo’s that we’ve looked back on and said, “how the hell did he manage to capture that – I don’t even remember seeing him there”. So thankful for how he captured our day for us.”
