Kate and Skye have been together for a whopping 17 years. Originally the couple tied the knot back in 2008 but waited another 12 long years to make it legal. Coincidentally, the yes vote came through on their 9th wedding anniversary meaning the two could renew their vows the following year on the exact same day. Peachy florals, sandy toes and picnic fare for all made these sweet beachside nuptials something special. Our good friend’s Stories by Ash and Modern Love Ceremonies were there to ensure this day was the best one yet for long-time lovers Kate and Skye. Scroll down for the details…

THE VENUE “We have always loved the beaches of Byron Bay, especially Wategos beach. We wanted a ceremony and picnic on the beach where we could have our feet in the sand. We had also been advised by our very wise celebrant that we needed to consider a wet weather back up plan. We landed on Rae’s on Wategos. We loved the idea of staying at this beautiful resort, relaxing in our room as we were getting ready and then walking across the grass and straight onto the beach for the ceremony.”

REFERENCES “As a busy working mother of twins, hitting the shops is not an easy thing to do and because we decided to elope I researched everything online. I relied heavily on Hello May to find vendors in Byron Bay. I am pretty sure I have read every Hello May Byron Bay article on the blog. Instagram and Pinterest were also great resources.”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “Hearing Cara say, ‘marriage according to the law in Australia is the union of two people, to the exclusion of all others’ was definitely a highlight. There was a mighty cheer from all of us! One thing we felt important to include in our ceremony was an acknowledgement to the many same-sex couples who had come and gone before us who never had the right to marry the love of their life. I think we both shed a tear when Cara said these words.”

LITTLE LOL “Ash had asked us to let her know any specific pictures we wanted on the day. We said we wanted some pictures of surfers in the background, unfortunately, it wasn’t the greatest day for surfing so instead, we got a picture of an old chap walking past us on the beach in his bathers during the ceremony.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant and photographer are the best people ever! We love these two women. When I spoke to Cara [Modern Love Ceremonies] for the first time she was so easy to talk to and she felt like our kind of person. On the day she was brilliant, she was so attentive and inclusive of the twins and delivered a beautiful ceremony. Ash from Stories by Ash was our photographer. She takes the most incredible photos and is the most down to earth and loving human. She was so present, so helpful and so generous on the day. Cara and Ash have also worked together a number of times before and the connection between the two is wonderful. Together they are definitely the A-team! And last but not least, our best friend and father to our twins Jamie Richardson, who was our hair and make-up artist. Jamie is incredibly talented and has done our hair and make up a million times before. He has walked alongside us for much of our life together so it was incredibly special to have him involved. Besides, getting ready with J is always loads of fun.”
