This quirky couple met when Adrian started tattooing Katie and although they have been together for four years, the bride admits to “definitely eyeing him off well before that.” After an 18 month engagement, they wed in Winter in North Queensland and our friend Carly Tia was the lens lady behind the event. Scroll down for all the pics…

THE VENUE “We originally really wanted an outdoor garden stye reception and had booked another venue. But that venue was only the venue, it was nothing else. So we had to organise everything; crockery, lighting, furniture, everything. It was just going to be too expensive and a lot of work. We looked at a few other venues but we just weren’t sold. Then one night when we were at trivia at Heritage Exchange and realised they had everything there! We would only need to pick food choices and arrange decorations. It was such a relief realising I didn’t have to organise every little thing, it was going to be fraction of the cost, and it would still be an outside reception.”

THE VIBE “Very us! We used to live near Townsville Palmetum and would walk the dog through there all the time. I always loved the cacti garden there and we have a whole patio covered in cacti and succulents. We just went with things that represented us and things we loved and it all worked out.”

DIY “Our wedding favours and photo booth. We propagated cacti and succulents from our own collection, collected 70 condensed milk tins (I actually put a post on a local Facebook buy/swap/sell group searching for tins and a lady who does lots of baking and uses bulk condensed milk for caramel kept her empty tins aside for us), planted them and topped them up with soil and mini stones. The labels for tins were made by a friend of ours who is a graphic designer. The photo booth was just Polaroid cameras and we bought a book off Etsy to stick the photos in. We also collected all the cut glass and crystal platters we used on the dessert table from different op shops around town, and bought all the decorations for the tables from thrifties.”

THE DRESS “I had a really hard time picking a dress. I ended up buying the Harper by Made With Love and had my seamstress add sleeves. She got the fabric from the train – the train on that dress is insane! In the end it was exactly what I wanted and I couldn’t have been happier in it.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “My pop walking me down the aisle. I just love him so much and I am so glad he got to be involved in the ceremony. Also, his speech was adorable, I think everyone cried! Both my dad and my only two brothers have passed away and I didn’t feel comfortable saying anything (plus I was trying to limit the amount of crying I would be doing) so we just had some nice old photos of them set up at the reception.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “ELOPE! haha ok so eloping would definitely have been easier, but I did have the best day and I’m happy we did it. My advice is don’t go crazy, we had a pretty reasonable budget compared to the average wedding. When we were planning I was a bit down that I wasn’t going to have the wedding I had created on Pinterest, but we didn’t have to get a loan to pay our wedding off and the day still looked and went amazing.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Dylan from the Heritage Exchange was so helpful. He was so accomodating – nothing was a hassle and we really appreciated everything he did.”
