Katie and Max met met whilst studying animation and interactive media at RMIT in 2011. After uni, the pair moved to New York City together before returning home and continuing to work side by side ain the creative industry. “I think we really solidified our relationship with a year of travel and a working holiday on a shoestring budget,” says Katie. More than 10 years later, the pair are just as smitten, and when planning their wedding in Melbourne, they wanted their adoration for one another to be the star of the show. “I think we are embarrasingly in love, so why not make it embarrasingly over-the-top!” Katie told us of the wedding.  “What better way to show that than with pink satin, clouds, cupids, pastels, and most importantly… pink outfits.”

Thankfully, the wonderful Rolan John caught this fun and fab lovefest on camera for us all to see, so get scrolling…

THE VENUE “We chose Brunswick Town Hall because it was a perfect blank canvas for us to bring our artistic lovey-dovey party to life. It had heaps of room, you could bring your own food and drink and it was very nicely priced. They also had tables, chairs, linens, sound equipment, and lighting for us. With a little bit of effort put into decorating the venue, we knew it would be charming and importantly authentically us.”

FAVE DEETS “The cake was the ultimate combination of fun and extravagance. Made by our friend Fin (@crybabycakes_)  from a drawing that Katie did, it was a pink three-tiered heart-shaped lamington vegan cake topped with wedding cake toppers of our likenesses. Also the flowers – Katie and I both stumbled upon flowers by XFlos a couple of years ago and we both knew we wanted them for our wedding. Their flowers are electrifyingly colourful and the composition of their arrangements were of a sculptural nature that I hadn’t seen anywhere else. They came to our venue and filled it with beautiful energy and vibrant beautiful flowers.”

DIY “Both being artists, we decided we really wanted to make this wedding our own, so we went pretty hardcore on the DIY – in hindsight maybe not the best idea timewise, but definitely brought us together and made the lead-up to the wedding extra exciting. First off, the alter for our wedding. I had a vision of setting up a sort of theatrical scene behind us. I sketched out an idea of clouds and pink satin, surrounded by gorgeous colourful flowers on some Grecian column-style plinths. I hand-painted the clouds on a blue sheet, and created the 2D columns out of cardboard and papier-mâché. Then we moved onto the centerpieces! I had been following this artist @corriebethmakes on Instagram for a while, and saw that she made and sold templates for cardboard papier-mâché vases, so I bought a few styles. Zac, Mum and I ended up making 13 vases over the few months leading up to the wedding. They turned out so pastel perfect, and also made for a nice gift for a few wedding attendees.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer Rolan John really captured the day in a way we didn’t know was possible. I loved how he started at our apartment as we were getting ready, and then moved to the venue and he really got around! Looking at the photos we were so shocked like, ‘Wow, he was there and then suddenly he’s behind us getting this amazing shot and then he was here.’ Such beautiful moments captured, with none of them feeling too fake or posed.”
