She’s one of our favourite brides, and works in fashion, which explains this glorious Jaime Lee Major dress and Maevana corset. “It totally blew me away,” says a beaming Lisa. “I had never felt more myself than I did walking down the aisle in that gown and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to wear such a spectacular piece!” And these stunning pics? It was thanks to a recommendation from a friend that the pair discovered James Simmons Photography, who got every detail, and don’t miss the video by Huemen Media at the bottom for all the feels…

THE VENUE “With quite a large guest list, we were actually quite restricted in venues we could use in Perth. I had looked through a few wedding blogs and loved the mood created from being in a wine cellar. After a bit of research, we went and saw Sandalford in Swan Valley and both loved that The Underground Cellar was almost a blank canvas and didn’t feel like a typical wedding venue. When we found out it could also accommodate our guest list it was an easy yes and we booked it that day!”

THE THEME “James and I are both very simplistic in our styles and wanted this to be reflected at our wedding. Our stylists at Behind the Scenes totally understood us from the start and created the perfect mood at our reception using white, black and touches of gold. Our bridal table, which seated just James and myself, really was the focal point and I loved that it a touched on boho styling without compromising the simplicity of the overall look.”

DIY “James and his dad restored our wedding car. James’ dad had owned a 1971 BMW 2002 and over the course of two years, James and his Dad restored the vehicle to what it would have looked like if you bought it off the showroom floor in 1971. It was really special to use it on the day as so much love (and I am sure a little hate) had gone into us being able to have that moment of taking off in it from the ceremony.”

THE DRESS “Five years ago I attended a Jaime Lee Major runway show and I was in complete awe of every gown as they sparkled their way past me. Jaime Lee had moved to LA, so I had almost lost hope of the possibility of getting my dream gown. Thankfully the stars aligned and through a few serendipitous moments I found myself in possession of my dream wedding dress, veil and head piece. And Maevana created the most stunning corset for me to wear.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Throughout the whole process we stayed focused on what we knew was going to add value to our day. It is so easy to get caught up in all little things but at the end of the day if you invest in what matters – good music, good food, good wine – you can’t go wrong. My advice to brides would be to wear whatever feels right for you on the day… You are a bride because it’s your wedding day not because of your white dress.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our stylists Behind the Scenes truly created something better than we could have imagined. Our photographer, James Simmons Photography came with a lot of hype and him and his second shooter Olivia did not disappoint! The photos really captured the love and fun of the day and we are so grateful that we locked them in from the very start.”
