The love story of Liv, an ICU nurse, and Ed, a vineyard hand studying viticulture, began on a dancefloor in a Hobart bar five years ago. Their wedding – which took place across three venues – was all about the good tunes and good vibes too. The pair themed their big day and gave guests the dress code: ‘Winter Disco’ (We.are.so.here.for.it). “It was wonderful to see so much colour and fun amongst everyone,” the happy couple share. “It was a perfect winter day with sequins, silk shirts, flares, sparkles and epic dance moves.” You’re going to want to see all the snaps from Edward Noel Photo, trust us…

THE VENUE “We had three venues for the day and all of them were perfect. The first thing we locked in was the Battery Point Community Hall – a beautiful historic blank canvas. The next thing we locked in was the boat – The Spirit of Hobart. This was a big deal and a huge vision for the day. I do quite a bit of sailing and so it meant a lot to me and Ed to be able to include the River Derwent and be out on the water. Ed was onboard, as long as the boat ride was short and sweet. We booked one hour for the boat for our legal (not-so) formal ceremony. The third venue was an AirBnB that we booked to stay at the night before, and night of the wedding, a stone’s throw from the hall and a short walk down to the waterfront. In the end, we actually said our private/mushy/tearful vows at this cottage, in front of our closest family and friends. It was an intimate gathering, very informal, but a great opportunity to say super important vows to one another.”

THE INSPO “When Ed and I were deciding what we wanted the day to look like, and how it would flow between house, boat, and hall, essentially we realised we wanted our favourite people, our favourite wine, food and good tunes. We wanted people to have a good time, be comfortable and warm for our Hobart winter wedding, and we definitely wanted people to dance… hence we came up with: ‘Winter Disco’. After we actually put that in writing and sent out the invites, a lot of details flowed on from that. Streamers, disco balls, outfits, music and the vibe of the day held true to the theme.”

LITTLE LOL “Hot tip… if you’re inviting 75 people to your wedding, you do not need 75 invitations. *face palm* For the Save The Dates, personalised stamps, invitations and fridge magnets I ordered almost double of what we needed. Turns out, most people are in couples, groups or families so you actually don’t need one for every guest. Let that be a lesson from me to you.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS “We both knew we would change into ‘disco jackets’ after the ceremony on the boat, but neither of us had seen the other’s jacket. We did a surprise reveal and it was epic, perfectly captured by Edward Noel, executed with the help of my dear friend Natalie. Ed looked like a rainbow fish, and he said I looked like a tropical bird! Hahaha. It was a brilliant detail of the day and I’m glad we kept them a surprise.”

STANDOUT VENDOREdward Noel Photo is a bloody legend. Our photos are so unique. Ed was professional, relaxed enough to go with the flow, but he had some great ideas and made us feel so comfortable on the day. It was great to pop into Grape at Salamanca and share a gin & tonic, just the three of us, and take a moment to ourselves at the place where Ed and I met all those years ago on the dancefloor. Ed’s photos and edits are epic. The man can camera, well, very very well.”

We can totally get behind this amazing team of vendors who came together to make Liv and Ed’s day *chef’s kiss*, and definitely suggest you head on over to our directory to find the best of the best Tassie-based vendors, including Oz-wide suiting experts M.J. Bale.
