These two got engaged in a surreal setting and married in one, too! “We were on a trip to New Zealand for Chris’s 30th,” explains the bride, who got ready in one of our favourite brands, Piyama. “We went for a beautiful walk along the lake – the air was crisp and the sky was blue. Chris took my hand under a weeping willow at the feet of the snow-capped mountains and asked me to marry him. The moment was surreal.” Fast forward 14 months and they were on the beaches of Burleigh Heads, tying the knot. Lucas & Co were there to capture it all on camera, so scroll down for all the pretty pics…

THE VENUEWe both love the beach, fresh air, good food and are sticklers for a sunset. This made Rick Shores and Hillview Homestead easy choices. We knew as soon as we went for our first visits at each venue that they would be perfect.”

THE VIBEThe theme we wanted for the day was laid back coastal vibes with plenty of fun with closest family and friends. Both venues certainly delivered and more.”

FAVOURITE DETAILSSeeing the smiles on everyone’s faces and the setting at Rick Shores which was amazing. Watching the sun set from the beach with an Aperol Spritz and bug roll in hand was unbeatable. Lauran from Wild Magnolia Floral Designs created the most incredible white rose bouquets for the girls and decorated Rick Shores with a selection of our favourite white flowers in small vases for each table, her work blew us away. Having one of our closest mates, Mattew O’Donnell sing us down the aisle was also extremely special.”

THE DRESSMy dress was made by the talented Brad from Darb Bridal Couture in the Brisbane arcade. I tried on a few wedding dress’ prior to finding the perfect dress. I stumbled across Brad’s boutique one day in the city on my own and without an appointment, tried on the first dress I saw. It was perfect. It was so far from what I thought I wanted to wear but how often do you get to wear a beautiful wedding dress?!”

MEMORABLE MOMENTThere was one polarising moment which also tied in some tradition. Midway through the wedding ceremony whilst the the celebrant was mid verse, Chris’ Nonna rose from her seat, unscripted, to give her blessing and kiss us both on the cheek at the alter. It was a very special, time-stopping moment and was reminiscent of a traditional Italian wedding. Also, sitting on the beach by ourselves at night time and peering back at a lit up Rick Shores with all of our friends and family dancing and laughing.”

STANDOUT VENDORSStaff and management from Rick Shores and Hillview Homestead were perfect as were Lucas & Co, our photographers. We wanted these people to feel as involved in the day as possible and we certainly felt their positivity. All amazingly talented and hard working people. We could not be more thankful.”
