Together for eight years, Meg, a Canadian, and Josh, an Aussie, first met as many modern love stories go by ‘swiping right’. And thankgoodness they did, because what followed is a seriously stunning lakeside wedding hosted at Camp Timberlane in the Canadian province of Ontario. Not only did Josh’s family fly over from Australia for the special celebration, but so too do did the couple’s talented photographer, the one and only Maegan Brown Moments. And the way the couple connected with this Vic-based photographer is the sweetest addition to an already beautiful love story.

So it goes… Maegan was in Europe and randomly ended up photographing an Aussie couple, Jesse and Danny – it turned out that  Josh was a long-time friend of one of the grooms she photographed in Paris. Josh and Meg saw the Paris photos and fell in love! Next thing, they reached out about the potential of flying Maegan over for their Canadian wedding. “We caught up on Zoom, hit it OFF straightaway and were chatting back and forth for over a year in the lead-up to their big day,” says Maegan Brown. “By the time I got to Canada I already felt like Meg and Josh were old friends, so it was such a surreal moment finally meeting them IRL after so long! And to have something in common to chat about with their Aussie guests was so sweet”.

THE VENUE “We did not see a single wedding venue before deciding on Camp Timberlane! When we thought about our wedding the word that kept coming to mind was fun. We wanted people to have oodles and oodles of fun. We also recognised that a lot of guests were traveling across the world to be there so we wanted it to be more than a one-night celebration. Josh did not want a wedding venue in the city, which really narrowed down the list, and then I floated the idea of camp by him and there was no turning back. We googled “Ontario Camp Weddings” and up popped Camp Timberlane. I made a call to the camp director, Harley Hayman, and while we were on the phone he mentioned that he hires the majority of his staff from Australia. We took it as a sign and the rest was history.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS “The whole weekend was simply amazing. I really enjoyed the day of, as I got to go swimming and have a hit of tennis which really helped with the nerves. I probably have two highlights. Meg and I got to step out with our photograpgher Maegan around sunset for a few photos and it was nice to just get away from it all for an hour. Maegan is so much fun and she really made us feel relaxed. The other highlight were the speeches, especially by Ronan (best man). We are extremely lucky to have such a great group of friends.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “We wrote our own vows. And that we picked our aisle, recessional and first dance songs together. We had fun with this actually – we sat on our balcony with drinks, snacks and a big speaker and listened to songs of a few hours to finally get to our top picks!”

FAVE DEETS “Our florist Hygge Bloom really does deserve a trophy for this one. When we first started planning the wedding I wanted white florals with just a touch of green. Given that we were not having a city wedding I was limited with my vendor selection and had to book vendors more than a year in advance – green and white was my vision at the time. But visions change and about six months before the wedding I called Jess and said I wanted colour, lots and lots of colour. Pinks, oranges, fuchsias, essentially sherbet colours in a bouquet. I asked her if she could make it work and boy oh boy did she ever. I could have burst into tears when I saw the bouquets she put together (this is coming from somebody who can’t tell you the difference between a daffodil and delilah).”

STANDOUT VENDOR “Our photographer Maegan Brown. Or as we refer to her in our household, God with a camera. She killed it. Absolutely, without a doubt, no questions asked, killed it. As soon Maeg texted me that she was here, in Canada, I cried. I knew her work would be phenomenal. I just knew it. It could rain, snow, hail, tornado, hell the world could end on our wedding day and I knew Maegan would find the perfect slice of light to capture the whole darn thing. Never in my life have I been so sure about somebody, except for maybe when I met my now husband. Maegan took the vision in my head, the vision I could not even find the words to describe, and made it into art. Meag is a spectacular photographer, a (now) life long friend and truly the kindest and warmest person we could have been blessed to share our wedding day with. I know there are fantastic wedding photographers in the world, but none of them are God with a camera.”
