We’re loving everything about Megan’s short dress and boots combo – check the fun casual bride vibes! Swoon. It was the perfect look for her nups to Chris in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

The pair already have a son (cutie Percy), a dog (Quickly) and a house together, so tying the knot was the icing on the cake. “For us, marriage is really about recognising and celebrating us as a couple. We already had a dog and a house and kid, so it wasn’t about getting married and then doing some of those traditional things together.”

Megan and Chris sorted themselves out a standout team of vendors (including two of our faves, Peggy and Finn and The Whole Bride ), with Miriam from Life is Beautiful taking on the all-important role of lens lady on the day. And once you’ve checked out these pics, you’ll see why the newlyweds gave her such raving reviews.

THE VIBE “We wanted it to be a fun party. Good food and drinks at an out-of-the-way place where people would relax. It was almost like the party was the priority and the wedding came next!”

THE VENUEObi Obi Hall was the first and only one we went to see in person. We wanted the venue to be a little further away from home so that our friends and family could escape for a weekend away too. For the few days around the wedding, we were able to catch up with those who had been able to travel to be with us.

DIYWe made the arbour with some help from friends with better equipment, which made a great backdrop for the ceremony, but then lit up for a backdrop for the DJ. I [Megan] also handmade a series of pottery vases for the flowers, which were re-glazed after the wedding using ashes from the bonfire and given as gifts, too.”

THE DRESSAs I was a 14 in clothing, I found that none of the bridal stores I visited catered for my size. They all stocked smaller sample sizes. I contacted Karen Walker about the dress I had my eye on (the Bliss dress) but there was nowhere in Australia that stocked it, so I couldn’t try it on. Karen Walker’s wholesaler, Michele, was going to be in Melbourne and kindly let me meet her at her hotel to try on a calico sample in my size. COVID had just started to be a thing and I was a little worried about travelling. It was a pretty strange day as I had just birthed our son, Percy, so I was walking around Melbourne with a breast pump. I was really happy with the fitting, so it was worth the trip.

MEMORABLE MOMENTSDriving together to the ceremony was a lovely moment. It was a rare moment from the day that was relatively quiet and free from running around. And it was just the two of us. Plus our little boy, Percy. And our greyhound, Quickly… but other than those two, it was just us!”

COOL CUSTOMChris’s family has a tradition that involved us being wrapped in streamers during our first dance. While family all knew it was coming, a lot of friends had never seen it, so that was pretty fun. Megan’s father passed before the wedding so Chris wore a set of his cufflinks – that was really sweet. Both our mums were the ring bearers.”

STANDOUT VENDORSWe chose some great people. But the two that really made our day were Paul Vogehe really doesn’t get paid enough for all the time he put in – and our photographer Miriam from Life is Beautiful, she really listened to what we wanted and we’ve ended up with stunning photos as a result!”

If you’re still looking for those finishing touches to put on your big day, we definitely recommend checking out The Whole Bride’s directory listing – they do everything from eco-friendly confetti (like Megan and Chris’) to sparklers, umbrellas and more – and, of course, you’ve got to check out Peggy and Finn for guys’ accessories.
