We all know a Mel-and-Olly couple – you know, the ones who had to veer sideways away from their OG plans thanks to (ugh) COVID. But these here fine folks weren’t about to let the pandemic ruin all their fun, switching things up for an intimate local ceremony with their nearest and dearest.

“Our original wedding day was planned to be quite formal and structured, with a neutral colour scheme. Given the change in plans, we really just wanted a fun, casual and vibrant celebration of our love, something that felt a little bit more ‘us,'” they say, cuing a hunt for more relaxed ‘fits for the occasion – hers a gorg silk slip from Sir. and his a dapper blue suit from M.J. Bale. We think you’ll agree after checking out the pics by talented lady Elsa Campbell that they totally hit the brief!

THE VENUEWe live very close to Edinburgh Gardens and walk our dogs there every day. We thought it would be great to have our small ceremony somewhere meaningful to us and that we could visit again regularly in the future. I’m so glad we did, as now every time we walk our dogs or have a picnic it feels so much more special knowing that we’re at the location where we became husband and wife.”

THE SUITOlly ordered his suit off the rack at M.J. Bale. He was in the process of having a suit tailor-made at Oscar Hunt for our original date, but due to lockdowns he wasn’t able to attend any fittings. He found his blue suit online and ordered it a week or two before the wedding.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTSOur favourite memory from the day would have to be walking from our house to the ceremony location together with our dogs. It felt so special to walk down the familiar streets of Fitzroy North like we do every day, but knowing that this time we would soon be husband and wife! Elsa Campbell took some beautiful portraits of us on this walk and made the whole experience so relaxed and fun. When we got to Edinburgh Gardens the atmosphere was incredible. It was Melbourne Cup Day and we were just out of lockdown so there were drunken picnics everyone and we had people shouting out “congratulations” everywhere which only added to our excitement.”

LITTLE LOLWe didn’t think about the fact that we’d need a signing table on the day! We ended up signing our marriage certificate on Olly’s back which made for some great photos to look back on!”

STANDOUT VENDORSOur photographer, Elsa Campbell, is incredible! She captured our day in such a relaxed and organic way and her photography style is absolutely beautiful. We’re so excited to work with her again soon!”
