Welcome to Mia and Tommy’s absolute dream of a wedding day. The vibe was modern minimalist elegance, with gorgeous all-white-everything details that popped against the lush rolling hillside of regional Victoria. Picturesque perfection, but that’s not to say everything went to plan. The newlyweds shared some words of wisdom for all you folks feverishly refreshing the weather app: rain is one thing you can’t control. But these two didn’t let a watery wedding crasher dampen their day. Actually, it kinda brought the party, “The fact that it rained, we look back on and laugh. The rain made the night. Honestly, you can’t control everything – but what you can control is how you react to the situation”.

We are obsessed with these snaps from Kinship By Kristy, who was on the scene to immortalise every moment, including that epic wet and wild dance floor. Dive in below, but before you do, let’s take a trip down memory lane with Mia and Tommy.

LITTLE LOL “One of my bridesmaids, which was actually my sister, had ordered the wrong dress and we only realised midday the day before the wedding! So, so stressful. Luckily, another of my bridesmaids had ordered two sizes, and the spare was at her house in Melbourne an hour and a half away from where we were. My aunty and uncle flew into Melbourne that day and picked it up from her house to bring to us. But this dress was too big. So, my grandma brought around her sewing machine and adjusted it, finishing at 11 pm the night before the wedding. It leaves us with a good before-the-wedding story, I guess.”

THE VENUE “Our wedding venue was an easy pick. It was Tom’s mum and dad’s property. They had hosted weddings at their old house, and as they recently moved to this new property, built their house, and worked on the garden… the place was perfect. We didn’t need to look anywhere else.”

DIY “We made our bar, welcome sign and seating chart. Tom, being a builder and painter, we knew we could take these projects with two hands; we were so excited! We designed the welcome sign and seating chart and made the stand it sat in. We used a Cricut [for the] writing and got my grandma to help cut out all the vinyl and place it perfectly on our boards. It was all so much fun, and it paid off looking around on the wedding day at how much effort we had put into these projects.”

THE DRESS “My dress was from KYHA Studios. The service was incredible, and their gowns were all so elegant and beautiful. I knew what suited me and what I wanted, so we trialled a few, and it honestly didn’t take long. When I put on the one I liked the best, my bridesmaid, mum, and grandma cried, and I knew it was the one. I added the sleeves to the dress also, so I knew it was unique.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT (Mia) “Getting ready with all my gal-pals. This was so special, so calm, chill and exciting. I will never forget getting our hair and makeup done, taking ‘getting ready’ photos, having espresso martinis at 10am and the best hype-up before we headed off to the venue. My other favourite moment was honestly walking down the aisle. I’m sure everyone says this, but until you are in this moment where all eyes are on you, but all you can look at is the man you’re about to marry, it is like nothing else. It was so special seeing Tom for the first time and his reaction will forever live with me. Oh, one last one, dancing in the rain on our outdoor dance floor with all of our favourite people is a massive highlight. This moment with everyone was honestly priceless.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Invest in an on-the-day coordinator as they will be your lifesaver, keeping you sane and calm, especially at a private property wedding. Also, invest in a good photographer and videographer. Yes, they are expensive, but my gosh it is worth every cent. Our photos and wedding video are what we have to look back on forever. If you are tossing up getting a videographer, do it!”
