After 11.5 years of dating, Aaron got down on one knee part way through a hike in the Yarra Valley “It was just us. It was very us,” Michelle says of the proposal. A short five-month engagement was ideal for these two romantics, and “whimsical” quickly became the buzz word for Michelle and Aaron’s gorgeous Melbourne wedding hosted in the stunning grounds of Heide Museum of Modern Art. THE VIBE “Whimsical quickly became the word of our wedding planning. We wanted the day to feel relaxed, happy and not too structured. We went with a lot of natural colours, flowy floral arrangements to tie in with the gardens of Heide, and fun music that reminded us of our relationship when we first started dating.”

THE VENUE “The grounds at Heide Museum of Modern Art are absolutely beautiful and the staff at Heide Kitchen did a great job of setting up the space, considering all details down to the table arrangements, the place cards and candles. The day ran really smoothly, with the transitions of each stage of the day feeling easy for us and our guests.”

THE DRESS “I got my dress from Anna Campbell which was the second store I went to on my search. I loved how feminine and romantic Anna Campbell dresses were. The store and lovely staff made the whole experience so relaxed and fun. My dress was then altered by Brides of Brighton with Susie and Cecilia. Within about 10 seconds of putting on my wedding dress they had worked out exactly what needed to be done to make my dress perfect for me. So much care was put into making sure everything was perfect for the day, they are so experienced and great at what they do so I knew my dress was always in good hands.”

LITTLE LOL “There was a slight delay in me starting my walk down the aisle when my veil blew off. Lucky for us, our celebrant Shelley saved the day and put it back on, only for it to blow off again a few more times down the aisle and in the ceremony. It was a great ice breaker, everyone laughed it off and it made the moment feel relaxed.”

DIY “One project we were proud of was the guest book we made. We printed photos of each of our wedding guests and made a book that they could sign a message in next to their photo. It was a big success, and people were lining up to have a look through the photos and write their message.”

FAVE DETAILS “We got to undertake a dance lesson with my grandpa in the lead-up to the wedding to incorporate some basic ballroom dance moves into our first dance. My grandpa and grandma had been ballroom dancers for their entire marriage, so it was a nice ode to my grandma who passed recently.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer, Lilli Waters from I Got You Babe documented the day so perfectly and was such a calm and lovely presence. She made us feel really comfortable which added to the relaxed feeling of the day. When looking back on our wedding photos we are still blown away by how beautifully Lilli captured the love and all the special moments, big and small.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “One thing that really paid off were the jaffles served to our guests on the dancefloor as a late night snack. A little addition that was very much enjoyed by everyone.”
