Nicci and Dave’s proposal story is the kinda energy we’re always here for. “He knew I would be pretty suspicious if he’d planned anything like a boat ride or mountain hike out of the blue, and instead suggested we go to the pub one Saturday afternoon,” Nicci tells us. “It was over my favourite comfort meal (chips and gravy and beer!) that he chose to pop the question, knowing I’d be in my most comfortable/happy place.” What followed was an “all killer no-filler wedding” in  Brunswick, which thankfully the uber-talented Georgia Verrells snapped and was keen to share with us today. From Nicci’s gold jumpsuit, which she made herself (yes, girl!), to the gorgeous Ladybird Cakes creations and the heartfelt ceremony thoughfully curated by Wendy Does Weddings, every detail of this day was damn delicious. THE INSPO “Before we started any planning, we both sat down and wrote a list of all the things we liked (and didn’t like) about other weddings we’d been to. We then made a point of only including the things we both really enjoyed. The result was an all killer-no filler relaxed vibe where all the important stuff was done early and the rest of the night was for dancing and enjoying ourselves. We had no speeches, no allocated seating. It was a cocktail-style event where there was no pressure on anyone. It was honestly ideal.”

DIY “Ummm… yes, too many haha! As a freelance creative I’m exposed to a lot of great resources, and I’ve always been a mad crafter. When you have a vision of something in your head that you can’t source but know you could make, it can be a double-edged sword because it makes you a very very busy bride. In the end, in total, I made: bridesmaid linen robes, my wedding dress and veil, beaded bracelet and earrings (for me/my bridesmaid/my mum), the invitations, all signage, and an animated projection to fill the arch shapes on the wall at The Hall.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Don’t let others get in your head, ultimately it’s your day and you can do it any way you like. Start a spreadsheet. Now. Decide early on what your boundaries are (financial or otherwise) and stick to your guns. Invest time and money in good vendors, give them what they need, and then trust them.”

MARRIAGE MEANS “Trust, support, stability. Always having someone around to laugh at your jokes.  Sharing life’s fun little moments and collecting them all into something bigger than its parts.  Building a little sanctuary from the world where you’re free to express yourself without judgement – be it through crafting, punning, or interpretive kitchen dance.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant, Wendy Beech of Wendy Does Weddings. She totally understood us and wrote such a beautiful ceremony, and she created a wonderful, loving, relaxed energy that stayed in the room the whole night. And our photographer Georgia Verrells – honestly the calm hour we had with her for our portraits was exactly what we’d both needed on the day. We were in such a whirlwind of emotions after the ceremony and then she whisked us away to a beautiful rooftop in the sunset, and gave us time to practise our first dance together. It was a gift we’ll treasure forever.”
