Having known each other for a whopping 18 years, it’s no surprise that Nikita and Mitch found love in one another. A crazy cool couple who was unafraid of doing things a little differently, this pair didn’t have an engagement and instead, made the joint decision to get married by eloping to Thalia Haven in Tasmania with five of their favourites. Caught on camera by one of our faves (and directory vendors) Janneke Storm, scroll down for all the epic imagery…

THE VENUE “We have been wanting to visit Thalia Haven for years and when we started talking about eloping, we knew straight away that we wanted to get married in this spectacular location while also treating our family to an unforgettable holiday on the East Coast of Tasmania. Susan (the owner) was so great to deal with.”

THE VIBE “We just wanted the day to be intimate and full of love. Tasmanian Autumn played a massive role in our colour palette, as we wanted it to be reflective of the beautiful, moody days in Tasmania around that time of year.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “I love the driftwood arbour that Mitch constructed, complete with a driftwood ceremony circle for everyone to stand in for the ceremony overlooking the ocean. The copper fire pit at the ceremony, as my father passed away a few years ago and we paid tribute to him by lighting the fire to represent his warmth and love. Also the beautiful styling amongst the olive grove courtyard by Style My Day made us all feel like we’d been whisked away to Tuscany!”

THE DRESS “I contacted Sarah from Sarah Joseph Couture as soon as we settled on a Wedding date. I told her that I wanted an untraditional style wedding dress and that I wanted it to be black and full of texture. When she sent me images of it in progress, my jaw dropped to the floor. It is so much more than I could have ever imagined! It couldn’t have been more perfect for me, and I could not recommend her more highly to any bride to be.”

WE’RE GLAD WE “Walked down the aisle together. No one was ‘giving me away’ to Mitch. We made the decision to get married together, so we walked down the aisle to our ceremony together. We didn’t have any music to walk to, so my brothers did an emotional Maori Haka for us as we walked down the aisle. It was amazing and emotive and I am so proud of them!”

STANDOUT VENDORSJanneke Storm for flying all the way from the Sunshine Coast. She has such a talent for capturing a couples love in a photograph- her work is truly beautiful! She was the first person we contacted and we settled on a date based around when both Janneke and Thalia Haven were available. Also, Nina from Style My Day!”
