Engaged for 18 months, Penny & Russ were not afraid to get down and dirty with a little DIY in the lead up to their big day. Fun was the name of the game with the bride rocking a super sparkly number, from the lovely ladies at Sphere Collective, and with a rather pervasive Palm Springs vibe incorporated throughout, cacti, a breeze block wall and a pink margarita bar included. With the ever-fabulous Beck Rocchi Photography on hand, Penny & Russ’ big day was a resounding success so you might just want to scroll down for some details…

FAVOURITE DETAILS “Instead of table place names, we gave everyone a nickname unique to them or a memory we have with them. Guests knew that they were on 1 of 3 tables but had to find their personal nickname. Leading up to the wedding it was lots of fun creating names for people, discussing their quirks and our favourite memories with them.”

DIY “We sprayed second-hand chairs from Hungry Jacks pink. We sourced a piano, tore the guts out of it so that it weighed less and painted it pink before decorating it with flowers. We designed and made a breeze block screen in lieu of an arbour. We painted pots pink then planted cacti in them. Russ’ mum made totem poles similar to a rave stick with superheroes and princess’/ barbies to signify that sometimes the superhero saves the princess and sometimes the princess saves the superhero.”

THE DRESS “I tried on a few bridal dresses and they just didn’t feel like me. Next, I went crazy ordering and returning on Net-A-Porter, FarFetch and ASOS trying to get a feel for what I was into. I figured out I wanted something that I felt myself in, something a little bit extra that said, “lets party”. I drove up to Sphere Collective in Maroochydore where the girls were so gorgeous and helpful. I tried the Rome dress from Chosen By One Day and knew it was the one. I tried one other dress in white after, just to confirm for myself that I preferred the gold and sparkles. Finding the dress was such a relief, I hadn’t realized it had been playing on my mind until after I found it. Once I had the dress I become so much more excited about the wedding.”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “Our MC surprised us by staging a makeshift episode of ‘This Is Your Life’ which was hilarious and bought the house down complete with ‘applause’ and ‘laugh’ cues for the audience/guests. He introduced the bridal party as Production, Head of Hair and Makeup/Assistant Director etc. and Russ and I were introduced as Australia’s most loved reality TV couple – lol! The game show bought to light some risky jokes Russ and I made about each other in our early days of dating and the fact that Russ had let me practice botox on him.”

LITTLE LOL “A few of the oldies got a bit carried away at the cocktail bar and went missing.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Having the wedding at home was a big deal, I would seriously consider the extra work involved. For us, we are really glad we had a wedding planner and coordinator for the day. We couldn’t have done it without Jayde!”
