Phoebe and Gabby met on a Contiki tour in Vietnam in 2016 and by the end, the cuties were “inseparable”, Phoebe tells us. “After doing long-distance between Hobart and Brisbane for nine months, Gabby made the move to Brisbane to be with me.”

Fast-forward to Gabby’s proposal during a family holiday in Hobart – “I was so shocked that all I could say was, ‘Are you joking?’ Apparently, she was not!” – and these two set about sourcing some epic finds to make their wedding wishes come true. From the phenom florals by Mrs Gibbons Flowers to the cinematography of our mates at Anchored Cinema, and ofc, the beautiful snaps by Tessa Shannon Photography, this day was every bit the urban dream. Ready? Let’s scroll!

THE VENUE “From the second we walked into The Refinery we could picture ourselves getting married there. We saw four venues and The Refinery was the first one. We tried to tell ourselves that we needed to see more than one venue before we made a decision, but after seeing the others we had booked in, we didn’t even consider any of them and kept coming back to The Refinery in our wedding talks.”

FAVE DETAILS “We were astounded by the flowers by Mrs Gibbons Flowers. It was the one thing we didn’t really plan, we just gave Amber a colour palette and left her to do what she does best. When we walked in and saw the hanging installation over the bridal table we were speechless – it was better than we could’ve ever imagined.”

COOL CUSTOM “Gabby and I both had our ‘something borrowed’ from our grandmothers incorporated into our bouquets. I had a silk-covered horseshoe that was on my grandma’s and then my mum’s bouquet, and Gabby had a blue and silver broach clipped into hers. We also had the wedding pictures of our grandparents who are no longer with us set up on the table with our wishing well and guestbook.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Try to take a bit of time during the reception to just sit back with each other. It’s very easy to get swept up in the adrenaline and excitement of having all your friends and family there – but in the end, it’s only about you two.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant, MC and DJ Annie (aka Celebrant Lady Love), Rach from The Refinery, and our photographer Tessa Shannon went above and beyond to make sure our day ran smoothly and that we had the best day we could’ve asked for.”

We are compeltely awe-struck by everything Mrs Gibbons Flowers does, and definitely suggest you hit her up over on the directory. While you’re there, lock down James from Anchored Cinema, aka one of the best videographers we know.
