Rach, an interior designer, spends her days perusing beautiful details so when it came to marrying her partner of seven years, Mitch, it was always going to be an impressive affair. The pair chose a venue in Taradale, just over an hour outside Melbourne, to host their 50 loved ones. “Churchill was the very first wedding venue we bookmarked in our very first Hello May magazine purchased a week after our engagement,” the couple share (cute!). “It really took our breath away, how could it not?” They also assembled a rockstar team of vendors to make the magic happen – our gal Ashleigh Haase took some phenom photos, while One More Song DJs had guests grooving all night. “It was impossible for anyone to leave the dancefloor,” Rach laughs. Sounds like a helluva time… scroll down to see for yourself.

THE INSPO “As an interior designer my day to day revolves around being hyper-focused on all of the big and small details in a space. For our wedding we wanted the complete opposite – a space that we could walk into where the bare bones were so perfect we could turn up on the day with no flowers or styling and it would be breathtaking in its rawest form… that is Churchill. We chose four images we loved and anchored every other selection back to these original images. This really helped us stay on course and not lose focus. Our overall theme centered around a lot of neutrals, texture and a playful but refined use of electric red.”

REFERENCES “We found our photographer Ashleigh Haase, our DJ Eddy Mac from One More Song, our venue, and our florist Prunella all from Hello May.”

FAVE DEETS “The flowers are still one of my most favorite elements from the day. We gave Prunella the brief of a washing machine overflowing with soap suds. We wanted it to look like the flowers and maple grew in the space over time and added to how beautiful the space is rather than distracting from it. I even went as far as to create a digital render of the venue, with the flowers and Caris and her team recreated it exactly as we had imagined – a dream come true!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “We really took our time researching all of our vendors, and because we booked everyone two years out (or more in some cases!) we didn’t have to make any sacrifices due to availability. We assembled our dream team. Ash our photographer is a bonafide legend behind the camera, and we get to treasure our photos forever. Our celebrant Leah delivered the most loving and simultaneously hilarious ceremony – we all laughed and cried through the whole thing. And our DJ Eddy made it impossible for anyone to leave the dancefloor.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Don’t be afraid to ignore all of the advice that comes your way! Everyone is different, and you’ll find everyone will come out of the woodwork with advice to give you which can be overwhelming, block it out and don’t take anything too seriously.”
