Almost a decade after meeting, Carlo and Rachel made it official in this urban wedding you simply must see. “Our first date all those years ago was at Longrain, the restaurant downstairs,” explains the bride. “Carlo was clearly aiming to impress,” she says. As they were (and did) on their big day. Maegan Brown Moments caught it all on camera and we chatted with the couple below…

THE INSPO “We wanted the overall feeling for the day to be casual and relaxed. Longsong is a stunning space, and we knew that we didn’t need to have too many extra things in the space to make it special. We did away with a few traditional elements to keep it casual; no entrance, no first dance, no cake. We chose to have only our brother and sister as our bridal party. It was also important to us to try and be sustainable in our approach to planning the wedding when we could. We chose a florist local to us in Footscray (Lilac and The Cat) who focuses on locally grown and sourced flowers and sustainable flower design. We also hired recycled bottles from the florist as vases which looked great.”

FAVE DEETS “The flowers (Lilac and The Cat) were stunning and so much more than I could have hoped for. I had asked Jane to work with what was in season and I gave her a general colour palette (purples, reds, white, green) but it was mostly all up to her. In particular, my favourite was my bouquet, it was the perfect mix of native and orchids. The food and service was also a standout of the day. From the cocktails and canapes to the banquet menu, everything was delicious!”

THE DRESS “I was starting to run out of time (four months before the wedding) when I found Lilia Cass. The Little White dress was just what I was looking for and was so reasonably priced. I contacted Lilia and flew to Sydney as soon as I could. As soon as I tried the blouse on over the dress, we both knew I had finally found the dress. Lilia was amazing to work with.”

REFERENCES “I used Hello May for lots of inspiration, especially décor – it’s where I got the idea for two big vases of flowers to be our ceremony installation.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “Put full trust in our vendors and their creativity. My brief for photography, flowers, venue set up and music was pretty much to let them go with what they thought best. Without restrictions they could be at their best creatively. My flowers and the venue décor surprised me on the day, and I loved that!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Two vendors in particular stand out. One is Maegan Brown, our photographer. She was amazing to work with in the lead up to our day and I had full confidence in her and knowing that she would capture all the moments. We adored her style of photography and she made it so easy on the day. Being photographed has the potential to be awkward, but Maegan had the best vibe and made us feel so comfortable. When I was stressed about being behind in time, she was so relaxed and ensured we were all calm. Our photos are stunning and are the perfect way to continue to remember our day for years to come. Also our celebrant, Lisa Brown.”
