After a super sweet proposal (at none other than seven months pregnant!), fast forward four years (yes four!) and these cool cats got married in a gorgeous ceremony (organised only a month out from the wedding, guys) and had one heck of a party for their reception, all caught on camera by the talented Graham Murray Photography. THE PROPOSAL “Ahh, the proposal. I was seven months pregnant with our daughter and James decided to take me ‘camping’ in the middle of winter as a babymoon. I wasn’t impressed. As we travelled towards Malany I noticed the campground up ahead and all of a sudden, we pulled into Spicers Tamarind Retreat. He had organised a couple’s massage and six-course degustation dinner. We walked back to our cabin afterwards and when I opened the door there were rose petals and candles everywhere and when I turned around James was on one knee!”
THE VENUE “It was important to us to base our wedding around our daughter, we wanted her to feel included and not to feel pressured throughout the day and this needed to reflect in our venue. We originally planned to have our ceremony on a private property, but two months out from our wedding they could no longer do it due to personal circumstances. We were completely devastated and beyond stressed. We lost count at the number of venues we contacted, most where out of our budget or completely booked until my girlfriend called the owner of Flaxton Gardens and explained our situation. Usually, they only accommodate both ceremony and reception, but luckily enough they didn’t have a wedding booked and agreed to hold ours, four weeks out! It was classy and elegant, I was completely sold on the views and then our reception followed at Obi Obi Hall, where the fun started.”
FAVE DETAILS “My flowers! I booked my florist almost two years prior to our wedding and within that time things changed. I had my mindset on a winter pallet, I just loved the deep rich reds. One week before the wedding I called Willow Bud to go over and confirm floral styles and colours and we quickly realised we had completely different ideas and no time to reorder. I put 100% faith in Sandi and I was over the moon in what she delivered – trust the professionals!”
DIY “Almost everything was DIY! James and I love creating and upcycling items, we wanted every detail to represent us as a couple/family, down to the littlest of things like atmosphere. We had lots of help from family and friends and sourced a lot from op shops and market place. James is super creative and made all our signs, wedding innovations and other knick-knacks.”
THE DRESS “Finding the right dress was something I left until the last minute, I wouldn’t recommend doing that! I always loved Made With Love – so simple, elegant and beautiful. I had my heart set on two dresses and when I arrived I was told they had both been discontinued, so I was devastated. I always pictured myself wearing a long-sleeved dress, it never crossed my mind I’d pick anything else. But throughout the process, one of the ladies recommended I try on Riley. I wasn’t 100% sure until I tried it on, then I was completely in love and sold.”
