When Sarah and Sam decided to tie the knot they knew that incorporating their Scottish heritage throughout was a must. Think bagpipes, kilts and one very handsome cavoodle (complete with tartan cravat). Monty, the couple’s doggo, even underwent successful graded exposure training to bagpipes, not barking once throughout the ceremony. What a legend! Scroll down for some pretty freaking fabulous golden hour portraits, a bride decked out in Karen Willis Holmes and the cake to rule all cakes. Paris Hawken’s snaps are something spesh…

THE VENUE “Since we had family and friends visiting from NZ, UK and Ireland, we wanted to show off the South West of WA. Margaret River seemed like an obvious choice, so we took a weekend down there to look at a few options. Arimia is a small, family-owned winery that has a sustainable approach to food. The majority of their veggies are grown on-site, the fish are line caught in the river on the property and everything else is sourced locally.”

THE DRESSI looked in what felt like every dress shop in Perth before narrowing it down to two dresses [Karen Willis Holmes].  I’m quite into fashion and have a fairly clear personal style but in looking online I tended to deviate from my usual.  My Pinterest taste was a very relaxed floaty style with long undone wavy hair but when I started to try things on it just swamped me. The dresses that suited me were much more fitted with beading and sparkles, more old school Hollywood glamour.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “We got really lucky with the weather as there were storms the weekend before, however, Margaret River really put on a show. The ceremony was outside backed by vines and our homemade tepee arbour adorned with Australian natives.”

LITTLE LOL “Our amazing band BlackTop were consummate professionals and got everyone up dancing, however, there was a little misunderstanding with the MC with their start time. When we heard them strike up, we thought we’d give a little nod to say we were ready for our pre-arranged first dance but they were in full flow already so we thought we’d just stroll up when we heard them starting a new song. We wandered onto the dance floor after a few opening chords to have our first dance to “Golddigger”!

STANDOUT VENDORSonja Howell, our wonderful celebrant, was so calm and lovely. She made all the preparations easy and made it very clear she was willing to help in any way possible.”
