Tasmin and Nick met as teens and started dating after finishing school, so their wedding was a long-time coming. “We both had lots of time to think about how we wanted to celebrate with our loved ones,” they tell us, especially with COVID-related postponements. “The engagement ended up being two years, but this gave us plenty of time to plan our day and allowed us to do a lot of fun DIY projects.”

And when it finally happened? Wow. With his M.J. Bale suit and perfectly groomed beard, her understated gown, and the florals by our faves Film & Foliage, we truly can’t get enough of this glorious wedding. It had absolutely nothing to do with Koda (the couple’s Shmoodle) who was also known as the “over-excited ring bearer,” in his custom doggie tux, we swear! With shared-banquet noms courtesy of The Wilderness Chef and epic shots from a photographer fave of ours, Damien Milan, these ‘I dos’ had all the makings of a magical day.

THE THEME “I spent my childhood in South Africa, and because my South African family couldn’t be with us and we had to postpone our African honeymoon thanks to the pandemic, we decided to incorporate Africa into our day by having safari-themed elements throughout. The guests were asked to dress in their best safari chic outfits, and we tried to reflect my South African heritage in all the little details – Nick’s cufflinks, the carved African animal napkin holders and Christmas ornament favours, styling with our African treasures and of course, the gin bar.”

FAVE DETAILS “We were blown away by the flowers by Film & Foliage. My gran adored flowers and they were a way for me to keep her memory close, so I was elated with the wild, colourful creations. Each bridesmaid got to pick a unique bouquet that they felt drawn to. The giant arbour Ash created was so gorgeous and the flowers in the library just brought everything together and made the space smell incredible.”

THE DRESS “I knew I wanted something simple and silk that I would be comfortable in the whole day. I loved the dress I chose so much when I saw it online that I took a gamble and bought it from the UK without trying it on. As for Nick’s suit, we went in search of his M.J. Bale suit together and he trusted me to pick his accessories as a surprise for him.”

REFERENCES “Many of our vendors were sourced from Hello May. We fell in love with the pictures of our photographer, Damien Milan, in the pages of the magazine and our amazing florist, Ash from Film & Foliage was found searching for eco-friendly vendors on the Hello May online directory.”

LITTLE LOL “Nick got so into dancing that while cutting loose he managed to completely split his pants from front to back – thankfully we had already taken our photos.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant, Kate Cutter, made our ceremony so fun, personal and magical – really taking time to tell our story and reflect who we are together in a meaningful way. There were lots of laughter and tears from everyone. It was incredibly special and everyone thought we had known her for years!”

A bunch of these heckin’ great vendors can be found on our directory, including the likes of expert snapper Damien Milan and suiting pros M.J. Bale. Want to see more of this epic big day? It first appeared in issue 34 of Hello May, and you can score yourself a copy of your very own over on our store.
