Virginia and Andy are that cool couple that are not only in madly love, but can also laugh at themselves. Case in point… “We’re self-deprecating, don’t take ourselves seriously and very self aware that our wedding reads Inner West, millennial hipster wank with sincerest apologies (but also, that’s kind of what our friends joke that we are, so it makes perfect sense).” Safe to say, we liked them immediately. Add to the mix their epic wedding and epic snaps from Tones & Harmony and it was a ‘heck yes’ to printing this beauty, which first appeared in our 2021 Real Wedding Special. We’re so excited to share it with you here today for Throwback Thursday.

THE DRESS “I had three outfits, which I appreciate is a bit over the top, but I promise they all had different purposes and I just love fashion! For my main dress, I wanted something elegant and structural with a strong silhouette. I did my dress shopping with Andy (as well as my sister) – they helped me find my glamorous Toni Maticevski gown at Myer. I love how clean and minimal it was, feminine but not too romantic. I changed into a playsuit when it was time to dance, because shorts!”

LITTLE LOL “On a Sunday morning, two months out from the wedding, just as I was heading into work, our doorbell rang. It was my mum (who lives in Forster by the way), holding a puppy, laughing and asking “Are you surprised?!” She thought it would help with my anxiety, but didn’t really account for the sleep deprivation and toilet training! He broke our custom-made neon sign (that we carefully brought home with us from Vietnam for the wedding) and made our wedding planner very nervous when we said he would be walking down the aisle carrying the rings. But little Podrick turned out to be the best wedding gift ever!”

REFERENCES “Hello May was the only wedding blog or magazine I read when we were planning. It wasn’t really for the vendors, but reading the Real Weddings section gave me the confidence that we weren’t so unique for eschewing certain traditions (which had some of my friends and family gaspin) and that there were plenty of other couples with a similar approach.”

FAVE DEETS “Our wedding rings (from Grew & Co and Melawah Jewellery ) are engraved with the GPS coordinates of our little flat in Bristol, where we got engaged and Centennial Park where we got married. I’m super sentimental and Andy’s a surveyor so it’s perfect.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Finding a photographer that Andy wouldn’t fire after hours of posing was never going to be easy, but Miko, Tones & Harmony, basically became a mate and did such a good job of making us look glam. Also, he essentially became my wedding car driver because he felt bad that I wanted to take an Uber to Centennial Park. And Adam, The Vintage Stylus  was the bees knees – truly. We knew we wanted a vinyl record DJ and as soon as we met him, we booked him – he was so warm and generous with his time and we loved talking about music with him. Not to mention, he’s got good taste and knows how to read a room, our dance floor was sweaty and epic.”

Four of our rockin’ fave vendors were hired to help make this wedding what it was. To get in touch with Tones & Harmony, head here, The Vintage Stylus here, M.J. Bale here and Grew & Co here. What. A. Lineup.
