Oh, how we love a wedding shot by Janneke Storm! Pair that with a couple who are clearly smitten kittens and we are content. Jamie and Winston, nurse and landscaper respectively, are two humans with a history. Together for almost ten years before tying the knot, these two were channelling family, friends and food along with a whole lot of local vendor love. Keen supporters of small biz (*huge round of applause*), Jamie and Winston poured all their wedding prep energy into sourcing their swell vendors, so it comes as no surprise that their team pulled off a cracker! Poppy & Fern were on florals, Meg Maskell Fine Jewellery on rings and Cara of Modern Love Ceremonies took care of legalities. Scroll down for details galore…

THE VENUE “When we both decided on Byron Bay (The conversation went a little something like this me: ‘Byron?’ Win: ‘yeah!’ me: ‘yeah sweet’) we definitely had a certain vibe we were after. I read about the Byron Bay Wedding Fair through Hello May magazine and with no hesitation, a girls trip was planned. Our second stop for the day was Fig Tree. It was there I met the wonderful Che. The team won us over with their overwhelmingly friendly and welcoming vibe. Fig Tree has this strange and wonderful way of making you feel like you are at home. It wasn’t until after we had confirmed and put a deposit down that Win finally got to see the venue for the very first time, months later, on another sneaky trip to Byron Bay.”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “Seeing the big man, Winno, standing at the end of the aisle, looking ever so dapper, and that big old smile on his face. Win’s wish, which was very traditional and weird for him, was to sleep separately the night before the wedding. Not seeing each other before something big like this was really weird for us.”

A TOUCH OF TRADITION “Cara [Modern Love Ceremonies] did a beautiful ritual of acknowledgement of country, which we both loved the idea of, a little thanks to those past present and future that let us marry on their land.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “In regards to budgets, pick your top three or four and stick with them. Ours were food, photographer and flowers. We decided to invest a bigger portion of our budget into these three things and tried to keep the cost down on others, as we felt they were the most important to us on the day. Also, stick to small businesses and stay local! I know how hard it can be sometimes when you have a budget to meet and the big guys can be offering big discounts but think of the little guys and the sincerity and love that goes into their work!”

WE WISH WE…”I wish wish wish we did photos prior to the ceremony. When people tell you the day goes quick, they are not joking people! I wish we could have spent some time with our friends and family at cocktail hour mingling with everyone, but time did not permit.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “My hairdresser Michelle [Soma Hair & Makeup] of 10+ years came all the way from home in Newcastle NSW to do my hair and makeup in Byron Bay on the big day. What a bloody legend! Also, Cara Gallagher [Modern Love Ceremonies]! What an amazingly heartwarming and glowing celebrant! She is so so talented and amazing at what she does. She made Win and I feel so comfortable and everyone on the day commented to us on how amazing she was!”
