When Sandra and Dave’s epic wedding arrived in our inbox it felt like we’d just unwrapped the winning prize in a game of pass the parcel. As the brains behind Elvi Design, we must admit we had anticipated something pretty special.
The Butcher, The Baker, The Stylist and Creator followed Sandra’s instructions to create a “Scandinavian folk with an Australiana rustic twist” theme, and along with Manic Botanic created a beautifully styled reception at Sandalford Winery in Swan Hill, Western Australia.
“I think it’s really important to work with the venue’s theme to create the right look, we used gold and dark wood features to compliment the surroundings at Sandalford”, says Sandra who hired legendary photographer Christine Lim their day, including a choreographed dance to Lana Del Ray’s “Young and Beautiful”. “It was so emotional and really encouraged people to get up to dance.”
Knowing her presence on the dance floor was imminent, Sandra chose to change out of her first ensemble and into a tea-length tulle skirt so she could dance the night away in comfort. “I’m a fairly simple lass that likes beautiful, understated gowns so I designed a three piece outfit – one bodice, two skirts. The bodice and skirt for the ceremony were made from the softest French lace and an underlay of heavy silk satin. The lace was enhanced by the belt that my Mum hand embroidered and in the centre we placed my Grandmother’s brooch. The belt masked the bodice and skirt join”, explains Sandra whose mum Brigitta sewed ever stitch of her and her bridesmaids dresses… “Mum was adamant that I didn’t touch my own gown (apparently it’s bad luck?)”
