A doctor duo by day (Anaesthetics and Paediatrics to be precise), these two met while working in a rural hospital two and a half years ago and have been in love ever since. The proposal took place in the same spot they got married, at Audley, with Joel renting a boat and packing a picnic. “The spanner in the works was that another couple had the exact same idea, on the exact same random Tuesday in September,” reveals the groom. That didn’t stop him though and fast forward to the big day at Audley Dance Hall once again, and Tom Coburn Weding Co. was there to capture it all on camera. Scroll down to see this cute couple in action…

THE VENUE “Ultimately, Audley Dance Hall was perfect for us. It was close enough to the city to be convenient for friends and family to visit, and felt like a hideaway in beautiful bushland, just downstream from where we were engaged! We were very happy with the location. It reflected us as a couple and made sense for our friends and family too.”

LITTLE LOL “Joel’s sister (a gorgeous angel of a human), also happens to be dyslexic. She is a graphic designer and did such an amazing job with all the invitations and signs, however on the first draft of the seating plan, she had labelled every non-meat eater as a ‘vagetarian.’ Thankfully it was later corrected to ‘vegetarian’ which made for a much less debaucherous wedding night.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “Some of Joel’s close friends played an acoustic set in the park, with a guitar (Tom Kozak), two vocalists (Zoe Mitchell and Tom Kozak) and a violin (Jimmy Chen Jia Jung), which really set the mood and was incredible. The weather threatened rain the whole day, but held out for the three hours we were outside – a wedding miracle.”

DIY “A friend of ours, Aaron Korbl, hand made the Chuppah (Jewish canopy) wooden frame, and Michal’s Mum Anne, who is knitting-obsessed made the Chuppah top for our cousin Anna’s wedding last year. The whole structure was used three times in the last 12 months for Anna’s wedding, Michal’s sister Emma and our own.”

THE DRESS “I had Instagram stalked and came across L’eto Bridal. I was in between two medical training exams, so I needed to be efficient with little fuss when it came to shopping. I took my mother (visiting from Perth) and mother in law (visiting from Adelaide) to the store in Newport. Anya was very helpful and I bought the first dress I tried on!”

TALK ABOUT TRADITION… “Michal is Jewish so we incorporated a lot of Jewish traditions into the day. We were married under a Chuppah. We adapted some Jewish blessings into the ceremony and broke a glass at the end of the ceremony. We also included ‘The Horah’ into our reception, which involved a lot of sweaty and rowdy dancing to Jewish music, being thrown up on chairs and in the air. Joel has a German and Scottish background and wore his family tartan pocket square in his suit.”

STANDOUT VENDORS Tom Coburn Weding Co. was an excellent photographer and I would highly recommend him. The Audley Dance Hall staff are true professionals and will make your day very easy if you chose this venue. Also, Sarah, who made the flowers, was outstanding.”
