Ash and Jarryd’s wedding had us from the get-go. There’s just something about meadow flower bouquets and The Salty Shutter’s superb captures that puts a big smile on our dial. Then there’s the incredible private property they personally prepped for the big day, that stunning gown, suits from M.J. Bale (paired with shirts from Oscar Hunt Tailors no less) and finally, their definition of marriage…“It means always feeling at home with your person wherever you are in the world.” So you can see why we like them, right? THE VENUE “We had originally booked in the Hunter Valley before COVID rocked our world. After all the tight restrictions came in my parents bought a beautiful property south of Newcastle. Jarryd and I had always loved the idea of getting married on a private property, so it was just a no-brainer when my parents were up for the idea. I loved the weeks leading up to the wedding because we’d all work in the yard and then have a cold beer together afterward to wind down. It turned out to be the most special way to welcome our family into the new home and I must give a huge shout-out to my folks for hosting us and working so hard to make it perfect.”
FAVE DEETS “The florals! The tree arbour that Ash from Film & Foliage installed was MAGIC. The way she went with the flow on the day and adorned the property with her beautiful flowers was next level. I definitely shed a tear of joy when she brought our bouquets into the house. They were so unique and wild and the colours worked so perfectly with the vibe of the day.”
THE DRESS “OMG my dress. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. It was custom-made by Amy New. We shared lots of ideas with each other and then Amy sketched the design for my gown which I fell in love with. The whole process was so easy and lots of fun! Needless to say, after I brought the gown home a month before the wedding, I had to sneak a peak of it every day until I could finally wear it on the big day.”
REFERENCES “Jarryd and I probably weren’t even engaged a week and I had gone and bought the most recent Hello May already. I found most of my key vendors through Hello May’s Directory, WedShed and Instagram.
LITTLE LOL “Jarryd is renowned for his dance moves and so in true Jarryd style, he split his dacks after dropping it a little too low on the dance floor. He spent the rest of the night cruising around flashing all of our guests his undies. RIP gorgeous M.J. Bale pants.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “Jarryd bought Akubras for the boys as a thank you present which he gave to them on the day. They weren’t planning on wearing them but one of the boys put his on with his suit and it looked so awesome they all decided to wear their hats – a nice surprise when I saw Jarryd on the day. We are so glad that we didn’t cancel our wedding during COVID, followed our hearts and took the risk of doing a DIY wedding at home. It took a tonne of planning and effort, but it all paid off in the end.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Dane from The Salty Shutter was an absolute legend. We hit it off with him from the start and just made us feel like old mates hanging out when we were shooting with him. The photos are a testament to his incredible talent. The ceremony Marry Me Nicky prepared for us was beyond anything we could have imagined. It was relaxed, heartfelt, funny and memorable. She did the most incredible job getting to know us, our story, our family and what was important to us and that was all reflected in our ceremony.”
