Chloe and Dan were together for seven years by the time their big day rolled around but they had a few good reasons for wanting to tie the knot. Namely, ensuring their RealEstate.com perusing and decaf coffee-drinking days would be endless. We sure can’t argue with that! With a 20-month engagement on the cards, Chloe and Dan were able to secure their dream teams of vendors. From their photographer, Keeper Creative, to their venue, Black Brewing Co, the duo promise they wouldn’t change a thing. Chloe even had time to nip over to Sydney to retrieve her dream gown from Hope X Page. Benefits of the extended engagement, eh? Scroll down for some spot-on words of advice…

THE VENUE “Although we live in Perth, I grew up in the south-west and Dan and I spend a lot of our weekends back down there visiting my family, winery hopping and surfing, so it was a natural choice to only look at venues down there. Black Brewing Co was the 3rd venue we visited and after the first meeting with Georgia Dodd (the venue’s event coordinator) we cancelled our other venue visits- there was no need to look any further! We knew the venue well and loved that it had everything we wanted for both our ceremony and reception but Georgia was the icing on the cake. We knew we’d be in safe hands with her.”

THE VIBE “When I think about it, I took a lot of inspiration from our home and our day to day lives so that the wedding was truly a reflection of Dan and I. The jarrah floors in our home, the greys and greens we love, and the pampas and cotton flower that friends and family know are staples scattered in vases throughout our weatherboard cottage.”

DIY “I literally hand-stained 50+ wooden candlesticks (2 coats each) to be the perfect walnut colour for our reception! I couldn’t find any for hire that I liked and I had a vision in my head so I decided to take the job on myself. Dan would shake his head at me as I painted away outside in the months leading up but the result was so worth it!”

THE DRESS “I had always loved, and probably deep down knew I would wear A La Robe, the queen of slip dresses, to my wedding. I felt so comfortable in the Amanda gown, but on its own, it was quite predictable for me, so I loved the addition of the textural organza Pas de Deux skirt for the ceremony! The transition from ‘pretty’ to ‘party’ by simply taking off a skirt was so fun! The only stockist of A La Robe in Aus is Hope X Page in Sydney and conveniently my sister lives in Sydney so my Mum and I flew over and we made a weekend out of dress shopping. This combo was one of the first I tried on. Alex from Hope X Page was such a hoot and so accommodating when I wanted to pop back over to Sydney a few months later to confirm my choice. She even washed the Pas de Deux skirt sample for me when she knew I was coming over again!”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “One of my favourite memories from the day is arriving at the venue with my bridesmaids, sisters and parents and being greeted by the huge smiles and hugs of Kristy, our celebrant, and Georgia, our venue coordinator. Everyone was buzzing. I glanced over to the sun-kissed ceremony island where Dan, the groomsmen and our guests were mingling and could hear one of my favourite songs “Given the Chance” by The Kite String Tangle playing and I just wish I could have bottled that feeling!”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Don’t be afraid to choose your vendors well in advance! I curated my dream team as a result of this. It’s important because you spend a lot of your day with some of them!”

WE’RE GLAD WE “We are really glad we had a Friday wedding and made a weekend out of it! It meant our guests didn’t have to wake up the next morning and drive back to Perth with sore heads. We had also hired an epic house in Yallingup for our bridal party and partners to stay and this really made the weekend- we had somewhere to celebrate in the days leading up to and after the wedding. As much as people say the bride and groom should stay somewhere separate- waking up to our best friends the next morning and re-living the wedding was so special!”
