“Our overall theme was ‘modern art gallery’ vibes,” says Francheska, or Cheska to her mates, of her wedding in the nation’s capital to her long-time love, Dan. The foodie pair picked their venue Ovolo Nishi because of the mouthwatering menu (butternut squash katsu and lychee raspberry rose patisserie, anyone? Um. YUM), and shopped at all the right places in the lead-up to saying I do: Bared Footwear for heels, Kavalri for ring bling and The Whole Bride for the important stuff like confetti! THE VENUE “The two most important factors for us when we were choosing our wedding venue were: the food had to be amazing as we love love love food – our date nights consist of us learning something new to cook together or going out to try a new restaurant or night market. And number two: an indoor venue where we could have our ceremony and reception in the same place, with a great aesthetic for wedding photos. The Ovolo Nishi in Canberra had a huge tick with these two things, and we couldn’t have imagined a better venue.”

FAVE DEETS “Our florals were definitely a standout with our vibrant colour scheme. We chose to have oranges, reds, and pops of hot pink to compliment the colours in our venue. My reception shoes from Bared Footwear were also bright orange to match our colour scheme, and they were amazingly comfortable allowing me to dance the night away. I received many compliments on them.”

DIY “We had a heartfelt project which meant a lot to us as a couple. Our family and friends stated it was the best wedding favour they had ever received. We made personalised letters and signed them all with love. They all included a thank you for travelling as all our guests were mainly from interstate, a memory we had with them and appreciating how they are a part of our lives. The letters were placed at our guests’ seats in the reception space where they were able to read the letters whilst they awaited our entrance into the reception.”

LITTLE LOL “Our family set the tone of our wedding straight after the ceremony by ordering a round of tequila shots as soon as we were pronounced husband and wife. So much laughter, mingling and love was shared between all of our guests. We were not surprised our open bar tab had over 160 tequila shots invoiced to us the day after. “

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant Sarah from Sarah Marie Celebrancy made our ceremony as personalised as possible. She listened to our vision of having our guests feel involved, she had incredible energy on the day, and our guests continuously told us it was one of the best wedding ceremonies they had ever been to. We couldn’t have chosen anyone else to be our photographers. The husband-and-wife duo Caity & Duncan perfectly captured our day. Not only were they easygoing , but we could also tell how much they enjoyed their craft. It was reflected in the incredible photographs in our gallery. We knew the photos would be exceptional, but we were still utterly amazed with our final photos.“
