As every mid-pandemic, mid-la niña, 2021/2022 bride and groom knows, there are some things you just have to laugh at. “We had so many things go wrong, it became amusing,” says Jess of marrying Adam. “We kept spirits high by joking to each other, ‘Well there’s always Vegas.’ If we had had another issue and had to postpone again, our plan was actually to get married in Vegas – Elvis impersonator mandatory.”

Tbh we think that would’ve been kinda cool but luckily it didn’t come to that – as you can see by Third Wheelin Co.‘s beaut snaps right here. From Jess’ convertible high-low gown to Adam’s suave M.J. Bale suit, there’s a lot to love about these here nups!

FAVE DETAILS “Definitely our cake [by Mudda Cake], it was bright and quirky, which was just how I wanted it. Also the flowers by A Beautiful Occasion – I loved our table centrepieces, they were exactly how I had imagined. I wanted to incorporate citrus into the styling as a fun twist.”

THE DRESS “I knew I wanted to do something different and preferably a high-low style gown – I’d fallen in love with an Oscar De La Renta piece, but as the saying goes, if you have to ask, you can’t afford it! I’d seen that Sydney designer Bowie Rae did a similar style skirt and I wanted to find a top that made it look like an all-in-one dress. They had the perfect bodice, which we were able to make into a mini dress so when reception time came, I simply took off the skirt and away I went. I also knew I wanted a short veil and my hair to be short enough so you could see my dress and necklace, so I chopped 2/3 of my hair off two days out from the wedding (my poor hairdresser asked me three times if I was sure).”

THE SUIT “Adam is a no-fuss kind of guy, he knew he wanted a well-fitted black suit, white shirt and bow tie. He booked an appointment at M.J. Bale with the groomsmen, and it was the first and only suit he tried on (within 10 minutes of being there I am told). The M.J. Bale suit had a wax-like finish – a bit of a spin on the usual black suit, which he liked – and the jacket had a peak lapel.”

A WORD OF ADVICE… “We had been told to grab each other at one point during the night just to spend some time together taking it all in, which we did, and it was great advice. It hits you in that moment – you’re finally there and everything is perfect.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant, Kahlia Wilkin, was incredible. She perfectly captured the essence of what we wanted –a fun and relaxed ceremony where people could cheer, laugh and get involved, and it wouldn’t be too serious (although there were still tears!). We wanted everyone in the room to feel like they were part of the ceremony and not just spectators and she achieved that and more. Also Alex, our photographer, of Third Wheelin Co. – poor guy had absolutely nothing to work with when it came to the weather and locations for shots but he made it work and the photos turned out amazing, despite him being completely drenched by the end of it.”
