Jo and Matt lived across the street from each other their whole lives, but only met while coming home one night in 2008. “This was followed by a very hot and cold 10-year on-and off ‘fling'” Jo laughs. But in 2021 they were very much ‘on’, getting engaged during a bushwalk near their Sydney home, welcoming a lovely little girl, Scarlett in 2022, then becoming Mr and Mrs at Jo’s mum’s beautiful coastal distillery in Tassie the following year. The day was a total hit, in no small part due to HM favourites Sabre Catering + Events tasked with serving the delish food and Baker Boys Band in charge of the d-floor (as usual “everyone loved the vibe”). Cassie Sullivan Weddings also did a phenom job of capturing all the love-filled moments, and we can’t for you to see..

THE VENUE “My mum and partner bought a 1km stretch of land in Tassie that overlooks the water during Covid and on top of that they started a distillery business, called Dunalley Bay Distillery . It wasn’t exactly a no-brainer, but it obviously had some sentimental value, and the view speaks for itself. After some umming and ahhing, we thought, ‘Okay, let’s give it a go’. We thought it would also be a great opportunity to get people to Tassie.”

FAVE DEETS “The highlight for me, as well as for many of the guests, was the food. The catering by Sabre was truly delicious. Since we hadn’t had the opportunity to sample the food beforehand, we were essentially relying on hope for the best. Fortunately, there was an abundance of delectable dishes that not only met but exceeded our expectations in taste. Anticipating my post-celebration hunger, I had requested some food to take back with us. This added touch truly enhanced our evening, allowing us to bring a platter of scrumptious delights home and unwind on the couch, fully satiated after a day that was both grand and beautiful.”

THE DRESS “It was at Love Marie in Camden where I found my dress. Having no specific style in mind, I entered the boutique and perused what was available. The final decision came down to the dress I chose, Melrose by Chosen by Kyha, and another popular one, Hazel. While I liked both, the fit of the Melrose dress and the insight from Amy at Love Marie, mentioning its uniqueness, swayed my choice.”

DIY “Basically the whole venue was a DIY project! The land wasn’t paved or flat and so a lot of work went into landscaping and setting up the reception and ceremony location. While the boys worked on the outdoor aspects of the wedding, the girls, Mum, some of her friends and myself, worked on the finer details of the wedding such as the stationery, sourcing tableware and creating table decorations.”

STANDOUT VENDORSSabre Catering + Events – the catering and the service they provided was above and beyond. Dunallay Bay Distillery – Mum and her partner Mark opened up their business and their home to us and our friends, and created a beautiful space for us to celebrate. To top it off, they provided us with beautiful 200mL bottles of gin to give to our guests as wedding favours. And Baker Boys Band – everyone loved the vibe and music.”

A WORD OF ADVICE ” Don’t let your stress overshadow the excitement of orchestrating what promises to be one of the most significant and enjoyable days of your life – a day that revolves entirely around you!”
