Meet Julz, graphic designer and illustrator, and Mal, a video producer. These two humans create cool stuff on the daily so their wedding was naturally ultra groovy and complete with pops of purple and pooches in flower collars. Julz even constructed her own flower crown and folded 150 origami hearts which were used as place cards. So, we think it’s worth scrolling down for some more cute details as well as Kyra Boyer’s super snaps…

THE VENUE “At the time of our engagement and early wedding planning we were living about a 5 minute (or less) walk to the Theatre Royal and went there fairly often for pizza and wine. Mal has a film background, so we thought that holding the wedding at the town cinema would be fitting, and had seen photos of something similar done at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville. We were not sure if Theatre Royal did weddings but we contacted them and they were super helpful, sending through lots of information on menu and drink package options. We also loved the idea of having our names up out the front of the theatre, so that was definitely a deciding factor!”

THE VIBE “We didn’t really have a theme for the day. I am a big DIY-er, so this played a part in the aesthetics and how everything came together. My everyday style has a 60s/70s vibe so this was also translated into the looks for the girls and myself. I didn’t really give the girls many instructions for what to wear, my main criteria was that they wore shoes that were comfortable to dance in! Our colour palette was decided when I found my purple wedding shoes (for $70!) Once I had them, I went a little wild with finding purple everything. It was all a little by chance that everything looked good together!”

FAVOURITE DETAILSKyra was awesome. She was super relaxed and made us feel really comfortable. She even sent through a selection of photos to us the following day and it was amazing to be able to share these before we set off on our honeymoon. We absolutely love our wedding photos and would recommend Kyra in a heartbeat.”

THE DRESS “I found my dress at the Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar for $30! I was not looking for a wedding dress when I found it but when I pulled it off the rack I thought it could work. I was really into the idea of wearing a vintage dress and not spending much on it. I love vintage shopping and buy a lot of my clothes from the Vintage Bazaar. The main thing I kept in mind when I was looking for a dress was that I wanted it to have sleeves, so when I saw the beautiful sleeves on my dress it was a done deal. The dress was handmade and needed a little bit of altering to make it fit properly. A friend of mine recommended the amazing Holly Butler to do the alterations and I was lucky enough that she was able to fit me into her busy schedule. Holly relined the dress and worked her magic on it to fit perfectly.”

LITTLE LOL “Mal had the awesome idea to strap a Go-Pro to the back of our dog, Jess, and use her as the videographer. She was a big hit, and the resulting video is hilarious. It may be the start of her new wedding video business!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Tim and Felicity, who run the Theatre Royal, were great. They really went above and beyond in the lead-up, on the day and with the pack up. They were kind enough to do the bump-out for us which was an absolute godsend the day after the wedding.”

After some more urban wedding inspo and a whole heap of cooley dooley venues? We prepared a handy list earlier which you can find here. But first, you better get scrolling because these pics are fab…
