The lead-up to Laura and Anthony’s big day was a bit of a rollercoaster ride, friends. “Our original wedding was planned in Byron Bay, but our venue burned down three months before our event.” The pandemic made them cancel their second planned wedding, leaving this pair opting for a simple elopement instead – followed by a vow renewal in front of their friends and family on their one-year anniversary. “The excitement that builds up over a year to celebrate with your loved ones should not be underestimated! We were relaxed this time around, and it was a party from start to finish.”

The amazing busy bees at Upside Down Events took care of the styling, flowers and the stationery for take two of this spesh day, and with Samantha Heather Photography on pics and C2 Films capturing content for the wedding vid, Laura and Anthony’s day was all wrapped up. Ready to take a look?

FAVE DETAILS All of our styling and florals were provided by Lilac at Upside Down Events. She nailed our theme, which was a soft nude palette, and the use of candles, mirrors and linen created a feeling of romantic ambience.”

LITTLE LOLDuring the ceremony, my veil caught on fire, so that was quite exciting. There were some floating candles and naturally, as I walked past, my veil caught alight, but it was all sorted quickly, and I was surprised that I was not bothered at all about the new hole singed into my custom veil. It was basically ripped to shreds by the end of the evening which is a good measure of how much fun I had!”

WE’RE GLAD WE…I am so glad we went ahead with our wedding reception a year after we eloped. We considered not doing it s we loved our wedding – eloping was truly special – and our reception was not a traditional wedding in any sense, as we were already married. But having the reception a year after we were already married meant that we were totally relaxed and able to soak in every moment. There was over a year’s anticipation and build up to this event, so it was like a love explosion when the day finally came!”

REFERENCES “I found most of my vendors on Instagram, Google or Hello May. I spent a lot of time choosing my vendors – I believe they really do make the difference between an okay day and an incredible day.”

STANDOUT VENDORS Samantha Heather Photography photographed our elopement and for our renewal, she was heavily pregnant and not able to shoot the wedding. She had organised for a colleague to cover our reception, but she turned up anyway and surprised us for the ceremony and took our photos. That was a lovely surprise and goes to show that she goes above and beyond. I would recommend her to anyone. Lilac, our stylist from Upside Down Events, understood our vision and was incredible, patient and fun to work with. C2 Films were also incredible throughout the planning process and on the day – it felt like Dan was part of our wedding party! He danced and sang with us until the end of the night.”

Clearly, Laura and Anthony did a steller job choosing truly fab vendors, with some of our personal faves in the mix. You’ll find Samantha Heather Photography, Upside Down Events and C2 Films, plus loads of other awesome peeps, over on our directory.
