Lisa and Steve deserve a medal! Not only for their perseverance on their wedding day when things got a little wild (we’re talking gale force winds here, guys) but for the way they handled it. Their advice after almost everything blew away on the day? “Take deep breaths and just go with the flow throughout the day and remember why you are getting married in the first place,” says the bride, who wore a gorgeous Bo & Luca beaded number from Hope X Page. We loved the end result (just wait until you see the naked tipis) and lucky for us, Scott Surplice Photography was there to catch it all on camera…
THE VENUE “As soon as we were engaged, we knew we wanted to have the wedding at my family’s property. Not only because I grew up there and it means the world to me, but also because it has become such an important place for Steve too. Also, my dad passed away a few years ago and he would have loved how we incorporated the family property and home into the day.”
DIY “We made our own wedding favours- little jars that we planted succulents in. Steve used our old fence to put together signs for seating charts, toilets, parking etc and we had a working bee where a few friends and family came around and helped put them all together. Steve made an arbour from recycled timber for a friends’ wedding and we loved the idea of using it for our own as well.”
THE DRESS “I spotted my Bo & Luca dress on Instagram. It was a standout. I think I knew it was ‘the one’ but wanted to to be sure. I had found another dress that I liked, so while travelling for work in Brisbane, I made an appointment to go see it, however, my booking was cancelled the morning of. To me, it was a sign that I was meant to have the Bo & Luca dress. I was in love! All the hand sewn details were just so special. It was so intricate and yet so simple and extremely comfortable!”
LITTLE LOL “I guess the story of the day was the wind. On the morning of the wedding, things started to go wrong almost as soon as I (Steve) arrived. The balloons at the driveway entrance blew away, so we ripped up some white sheets into long triangles and tied them onto the fence- they looked great. Then the arbour blew over, which we fixed to the ground. An hour out from the ceremony, the tipis started blowing away. We called up KataLane Event Hire and they left immediately to help. We changed the location of the ceremony to another area on the farm and KataLane arrived suggested naked tipis. They were amazing and worked so quickly. They handled all the tipis and also re-setup the festoon lights. The General Eatery & Supplies (including their florists, the Daisy Girls) re-set the tables, chairs and flowers. It really was a mammoth effort from the three of them.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “We have to give a big shout out to all the team from The General Eatery & Supplies and their florists, the Daisy Girls. They were all over the planning, coordinating and organising not only the food and flowers but all the staff, cutlery, crockery, napkins, glassware and alcohol. Also, big love goes to KataLane Event Hire! When we had our emergency with the tipis, they raced over to the property and heroically made it all work only hours before the reception. KataLane along with our other amazing suppliers The General Eatery & Supplies, Daisy Girls and Scott Surplice Photography were so quick on their toes, were on the ball and all came together to literally save the day. Scott made it so easy to just be ourselves in front of the camera. He had us laughing, made us so comfortable and we couldn’t be more ecstatic with the photos.”
