‘Til death do us party’ was the motto of the night for Zara and Kevin, together for eight years. From the pre-ceremony gathering to a silent disco during their portraits, dancing in the streets, a high-energy reception to late-night photos dancing in the dark, this inner-city Melbourne day was a VIBE. With a theme like ‘colour bomb’, you know the look was going to be big and bold, and these two pulled it off with the help of some standout vendors, including Oscar Hunt and M.J. Bale for the grooms’ fit, and the ever-fabulous Maegan Brown Moments in charge of photos. Read on for big party vibes…

THE PROPOSAL “I am not easily fooled so poor Kevin created an intricate web of lies to pull the proposal off. Firstly, he whisked us away to a winery for the night under the guise that our friend’s baby was unwell and ‘someone had to take their booking’. FYI the baby was totally fine. After our night’s stay at the winery, Kevin insisted we sit on the porch with a cup of coffee that morning and complete the Saturday Quiz like we always do, 25 questions texted to your phone. I complained about wanting to drink coffee at a café, but eventually he got me out on to the porch. He had contacted the makers of the Quiz, our friends, and had them make a personalised version. The final question of the Quiz was ‘will you marry me” – we had a perfect score that week.”

FAVE DEETS “Our florist Astro Daphne did such a phenomenal job. Everyone commented on how beautiful and colourful the flowers were. She was a true flower fairy who we sadly didn’t even get to meet – she worked her magic at the venue before we were there and dropped of my bouquet before I arrived at the house. We couldn’t have been happier with how the flowers turned out.”

THE SUIT “My suit was from Oscar Hunt and the experience was great. I gave the Oscar Hunt guys an open brief, I just wanted something fun and different. I fell in love with the dark green they recommended and enjoyed all the unique touches, like tailoring the pants with a double pleat and choosing a wide lapel.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “When we were out taking our photos, before the ceremony, we bumped into a hens party who were walking the streets as a silent disco. They shared their headphones with us, surrounded us and sang Miley Cyrus Party in the USA. It was a movie  moment and all the emotions hit us and made us a bit teary, because we realised how surreal this day was.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Our wedding wasn’t very traditional, according to our parents. We didn’t get married in a church, we saw each other before the ceremony, but somehow the biggest ‘issue’ was that we didn’t have a wedding cake – and that just made us laugh so much. We’re so glad we only added and included the things that meant something to us. Whenever the planning gets a bit too much, just remember that nothing is mandatory – everything is optional and up to you.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “We loved hanging out with our photographer Maegan Brown Moments and videographer Revel Films who we spent majority of the day with. It’s so important to find vendors that REALLY gel with you, especially the ones you spend such intimate time with. We had so much fun dancing in the street with Jenna [photographer] and Aaron [cinematographer] it was a great way to breath in some fresh air after the ceremony and feel all the elation.”
